Bolton Wanderers can confirm that vice chairman Brett Warburton has resigned from his position on the club’s board.

Brett said: “It has been a privilege to serve on the Bolton Wanderers board for more than 25 years, but Eddie’s decision to sell his shares, coupled with Phil’s sad passing, seemed to mark a watershed and the right time for me to stand aside and resign as a director.

“I would like to wish both Ken Anderson and Dean Holdsworth every success as they strive to forge a successful future for this great football club.

“Anybody who knows me will understand just how much Bolton Wanderers means to me and I look forward to watching and supporting the team as a fan going forward.”

Chief executive officer Dean Holdsworth said: “On behalf of everyone associated with the club, I’d like to thank Brett for all of his hard work and dedication down the years. Brett has had a long affiliation with the club over many years and we of course wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”

The club can also confirm that Trevor Birch and Terry Robinson’s temporary roles have come to an end.

Not surprised really. I was genuinely surprised to hear Warburtons lent us money to pay wages a few months back. Not that they did it because they've had links to the club for yonks but that they did it and still stuck with the sinking ship afterwards. But given the rather flimsy nature of the SS takeover I suspect the Warburton family have decided to get out now.

I can't help wondering if it's a prelude to them making a later bid to buy the club for themselves again in a few years when the fat contracts are gone and when (hopefully) there's some sort of stable bedrock to rebuild on.
