Do you remember it? I remember swearing that I'd never have one.

Oh no,not me. I'm not getting sucked in.

But then, for some reason,I took the plunge, and bought a laptop. I remember getting the various

parts out of the box,and thinking,'What the hell have I done? This is beyond me.

It wasn't of course, but it was a steep learning curve for an old stick in the mud,who still uses a

typewriter.

I suppose a lot of you youngsters were brought up with them, but did any of you start with

Windows 95? My first OS was Vista.

I must say,the technology available today has transformed my life.

Who'd have thought it.

First one I used was my uncle's Commodore Vic 20.  Then my first computer was Commodore 64.  I stuck with Commodore, every time I upgraded until they first went bankrupt.

You had double density and half density ones which were the most popular formats. Very Happy

First I had was an amstrad used to get home from school and switch it on but had to go to bed before it had warmed up. Remember feeling the bollocks when I got my first big boy one because I had it made to order.

Windows XP 2003 for me. I resisted the temptation to get a computer for quite awhile until all my mates had one.

My first was a Sharp MZ700 even though I asked for a Commodore 64 like everyone else had. I used to spend hours on end writing code just to make a snake move around a screen and eat apples or create rainbow background effects. If only I had continued the coding instead of giving it all up to drink Triple Vintage cider on Asda car park.

Snap.

Although mine was a Vic 20 with less memory and processing power than a modern electric tin opener.

I sat there for hours typing in code to load up a game which (I think) was called Liberator.

It took about four hours to write it all up and then you got a badly pixelated rough approximation of a bomber which flew over a "Manhattan-type sky-line" which you then bombed.

I seriously think that whoever was really behind 9/11 wasn't really striking a blow against American imperialism, but rather they were so traumatised by how shit their Vic 20 was as a kid, that they finally snapped and decided to play Liberator for real.

Seems plausible to me......

Edit: It was called Blitz, not Liberator and here's a picture of how (un)awesome it was:

1978 Tandy TRS-80.

4k of pure computing power with data storage on a cassette tape before the heady days of floppy disks.

Yes folks - that's 4k.

My first computer was a Spectrum 48k with rubber keys.

I played Chequered Flag non-stop.
