Bolton Wanderers chairman Sharon Brittan would back a vote for Bury to be reinstated into the Football League.

The near neighbours’ financial problems ran alongside one another over the summer months but ended up with very different outcomes.

Bolton are in the early stages of a new dawn under Brittan and her Football Ventures consortium while the Shakers were kicked out of the EFL after Steve Dale failed to find a buyer.

Now a campaign is in full swing for Bury to be back in League Two next year, rather than starting again in non-league.

EFL clubs will meet on September 26 to discuss the Gigg Lane club’s plight with Brittan indicating she would welcome them back with open arms if they are on a stable footing.

“A club being expelled from the Football League is a watershed moment,” she said.

“It’s an absolute tragedy for Bury, for the fans, for the community, for everyone in football.

“If there was a solution that was tabled that worked and that enabled Bury come back to life that’s a big tick from me.

“I would (back a vote for Bury to be reinstated). I don’t want ever to see any club being expelled from the Football League ever again.”

Having seen Wanderers also come close to the edge, Ken Anderson’s time in charge ending with administration, Brittan is adamant the problems at the two proud Lancashire clubs should instigate change.

“Measures have to be put in place,” she said.

“It impacts on too many people’s lives and I just think we have to now look at what measures need to be put in place to ensure Bury’s situation never happens again.”
