An end may finally be in sight for Wanderers in their efforts to prize Ian Evatt away from Barrow.

The Bolton News understands an important step has been taken in negotiations this afternoon as Bolton look to appoint the 38-year-old as their new manager.

A dispute emerged between Wanderers and Barrow over the interpretation of clauses in Evatt’s contract, signed last October.

Barrow came out fighting this morning, briefing local press that they had rejected a ‘derisory offer’ which fell way below the £250,000 they claim they are due.

We have learned, however, that the asking price for the manager and his assistant Peter Atherton was never that high, and that the wording of his contract was the root cause of the disagreement.

Wanderers have steadfastly refused to pay over the odds, having felt confident before their approach for the former Blackpool and Chesterfield defender that they knew exactly what would be required to pay.

And with some headway being made in negotiations, it is now hoped Wanderers will get a chance to speak officially to Evatt in the near future about personal terms.
