Hope for the human race?

Most scientists assumed that the human population will continue to expand until the earth becomes uninhabitable and we all die in a monumental eco-tragedy but this article suggests that if we can self-impose massive carbon-cutting measures in the short term, there is a possibility the human species may survive beyond the next century.
