The conference only started at 4pm this afternoon in Spain. You have to factor the siesta in as well.
I'll have a butchers tomorrow.

It was the discovery of an earth size planet near Alpha Centuri. Our "closest neighbour" I think I'm right in saying. Apparently it means there could be habitable planets in that system.

Thank you for the information. So no near earth collision then?

What is really interesting is the possibility that the new planet could sustain life. It could be them buggers that keep visiting us in their flying saucers.

Highly unlikely. We now have the capability to nuke it and send it off course.

You know as well as I do that that would be a complete disaster if attempted.

It is unlikely to clash with Earth's orbit but if it did then we would be able to deflect it. If the Dinosaurs had the technology back in the day then they would still be around today.

I read somewhere that the gaps between the Sun and planets are so huge that it is possible for our solar system to pass through another solar system without any collisions taking place!

The whole fucking space thing is so huge we simply can not get our heads around the size of things - and more importantly the gaps between them!

When we look at the stars we are seeing the lights from HISTORY - it takes that long for it to get here. The whole bloody place could have all blown up for all we know and we simply don't know it yet because everything is so far away from us!

It fascinates me all this astronomy stuff.

If you travelled to a star that is 1 light year away how long would it take you if you travelled at twice the speed of light?

Its a bit of a complicated one, one would like to say 6 months...

however, the closer to the speed of light you get, the slower time gets, so i dont think you would ever get there...

its supposed to be a physical impossibility anyway to go faster (or even at) the speed of light, as theoretically, time would come to a standstill or go backwards...

according to the theory of relativity anyway... Suspect

Haven't they said that Pluto is not now a planet?

Thought so

Not easy to keep with the comings and goings of planets, though

You are correct about Pluto. It has now been declassified as a planet. This latest kerfuffle can now be viewed on Youtube.

I am surprised that Pluto has never clashed with Neptune over the billions of years, and thus creating a cascade of trouble for other planets in the solar system, considering that Pluto's orbit takes it closer to teh Sun than Neptune on a large part of its cycle.

Beyond our sun it's a big universe. Antares is the 15th brightest star in the sky and it is more than 1000 light years away!

The mind boggles when you try and take it all in.

So i don't Bother.

I reckon if Pluto clashed with Uranus you would have more to worry about.

For those who take an interest in this kind of stuff. The new planet has been named as Threapleton Holmes B. Health and Safety have forbidden contact.

This clip is from the History channel. It's seven minutes long but very interesting. Don't say you have not been warned. Wailing and gnashing your teeth isn't going to cut any ice. The four horsemen of the Apocalypse are almost at their destination.

Anyone notice how quickly natural events are occurring ? Hurricane Sandy battering America. Now we have an airborne virus ( Pestilence ) attacking our Ash trees. It wont stop there.

Today Guatemala suffered a major earthquake. Yesterday a five storey shopping centre in Accra, Ghana collapsed for no reason.

The end is nigh.
