Wanderers say there is a 'time limit' on offer for Kyle Dempsey 13407803

Wanderers want a decision from Gillingham on midfielder Kyle Dempsey as they look to add one more signing in the January window.

Ian Evatt wants the 26-year-old Cumbrian to add extra bite and goalscoring threat to his side, ultimately filling the hole left by former skipper Antoni Sarcevic who left to join Stockport County in October.

A second bid of £150,000 plus bonuses has been tabled, and is unlikely to be improved, but Gillingham have yet to officially reject it.

Bolton have given the Kent club some space as they continue to search for a new manager, although their top target, Bromley’s Andy Woodman, appeared to rule himself out of taking the vacant post at the weekend.

Steve Evans left Priestfield on January 9 – but a fortnight later, the lack of certainty over his replacement has left Wanderers in a difficult position and seeking .

Evatt believes the offer made for Dempsey, who will be out of contract in the summer, is a fair one. But the Bolton boss admits he may have to move for other targets if the situation does not improve well in advance of next Monday’s deadline.

Asked if the delay in Gillingham’s response could force him to look elsewhere, he told The Bolton News: “There is always a time limit but we feel like we’re being reasonable and fair and it’s a good deal for both parties, so we’ll see how that develops.

“At the moment, he’s still a Gillingham player and while he’s that, we respect that.

“But we’re doing what we can to make things happen and if it doesn't happen then we’ll move on to other targets. Of course, we have them.”

Unless something out of the ordinary happens between now and next Monday, Wanderers expect to make just one more permanent signing.

“That will be the January transfer window done and we will be absolutely delighted with what we’ve got and we’ve achieved.

“Huge credit to the board for what they’ve managed to do in a relatively short period of time to give us some sustainability and give us the foundations to go and build a squad again and build a team of players which are capable of performing at this level and above.

“It’s miles away from where we were three years ago.”

Wanderers could yet move players out of the UniBol this month, with Adam Senior, Ronan Darcy, Luke Hutchinson and Nathan Delfouneso all potentially available to loan to the right club.

It looks like the non-league player won't be signed and I understand the Gills reticence to make a decision on their captain whilst they are looking for a new manager - so maybe it's time to look elsewhere?
