New signings

On the appointment of Lennie Lawrence, DF said "he will be one of the best signings BWFC will make this season".

The words "one of" are very loaded and clearly imply that there is an intention to buy players.

Up until now I've assumed there would be no signings - or at least not "big" signings in the January window, but now there's fresh hope.

Am I reading too much into those two little words or do you think that DF is going to buy us a defence?

To be pedantic we've already signed the likes of Andrew's, made loan signings and resigned players like Kevin Davies and Zat Knight already this season (thanks Owen!).

I dare say though that Freedman would have requested some sort of a transfer budget in January as part of his recruitment package.

I'm more interested in who he's going to get rid of.

Hopefully that list will be extensive.

I do think dougie will buy/loan a few players once he realises that our current crop arent that good. I get the feeling DF has asked for money to spend in January just incase.

We are in desperate need for a goal scorer though, Charlie Austin springs to mind!

Way to late for both Zaha and Austin. We bid £1mill for Zaha which was rejected, but could probably have got him if we'd upped it a bit - they're talking £20 mill now (haha) and there's no way Burnley will sell the league's top scorer.

We score plenty as it is - if we can stop conceding we'll be right up there so I think that has to be the priority.

If I was dougie, come January I'd sign guidetti from man city on loan, I would try sign NRC when his three month contract at ipswich runs out, I would sign johnny Evans on loan, I would sign frimpong from arsenal on loan, I'd try sign michael Dawson for defence and i'd also try sign Darren bent on loan, he is clearly out if favour. I'd also try sign someone like Peter whittingham from Cardiff to get someone who can score from midfield. And maybe one big signing like pedro from Barcelona on a permanent deal.

I like the Jonny Evans one, if only so SKD could cripple him in his first training session.

Sadly I don't think that we can have that many loans or even stand a chance of getting these people.

I would NOT welcome NRC back to the Reebok. Couldn't jump ship fast enough when we got relegated and thought he'd walk into another PL team. Deluded idiot, let him rot at Ipswich!

Good ideas except for Darren Bent ....who I rate as a bigger donkey than SKD .....which takes some doing I might add.

Zaha we could have got for another million or so .....now Utd are interested in dropping a load on him. Of course he wouldn't be in our squad ....but that's another issue.

Is the Chelsea loan deal dead now Coyle has gone? The one supposedly agreed from Cahill leaving?

I presume the deal was made with the club rather than the then current manager.

That's a hell of a lot of wages we don't have but moreover the plan doesn't seem sustainable. This is a plan to get us promoted. So what would happen if we did? All the loanees would go back to their clubs, our own youngsters would have had zero match time and we'd be right in the shit again. Aren't we better off developing what we have this season and thinking about promotion if and when the affordable talent comes good?

Wanderlust - no. Next season the money for being in the premier league is massive, something like 70m a season? If we get up we can look to sign players then. We should sign the best possible loan players we can now to get us up. We can't piss arse about trying to develop players who we can afford right now - ie 500k sort of players. Very rarely will such a player be able to step up to premier level anyway. I am sure given the size of most premier league squads there are a lot of good players available on loan.

The guy Cardiff have got on loan from Fulham, kerim frei is a cracking young player IMO.

Doubt he will start tomorrow but look out for him if he comes on.

He can't be that good as I have never heard of him, and what I don't know about football isn't worth knowing.
