Are People Stupid?

I've said it for years, the vast majority of the British public are stupid.

The jury in the Vicky Pryce trial have basically been removed by the judge for being thick, to be replaced by a new jury on Monday.

Some of the questions they asked during their deliberations were:

• Can you define what is reasonable doubt?

• Can a juror come to a verdict based on a reason that was not presented in court and has no facts or evidence to support it either from the prosecution or defence?

• Can we speculate about the events at the time that Vicky Pryce signed the form, or what was in her mind at that time?

Amazing.

Isn't it time that the jury system was scrapped and we had professional jurors who were educated and able to understand the trial process. Should a dumbo from Horwich really be deciding the outcome of important cases?

They must have been trying to get out of jury duty.

I've got out of doing jury duty twice.

It's laughable that somebody like me is expected to sit on a jury.

Just imagine if the bloke on trial was your dealer.

Not guilty.

Just make sure he gets out before weekend.

The quality of posts has gone right down in recent days. I yearn for the unconscious hooker in the boot days.

It does make you wonder if a few of them were taking the piss.

Clearly the judge was not amused - this is his answer to the 'reasonable doubt' question -

Mr Justice Sweeney said: "A reasonable doubt is a doubt which is reasonable. These are ordinary English words that the law doesn't allow me to help you with beyond the written directions that I have already given."

That jury must have had several (at least 3) complete imbeciles on it. They even asked if they could
"come to a verdict based on a reason that was not presented in court and has no facts or evidence to support it". What a ridiculous question.
