Centre half Matt Mills described Bolton Wanderers’ victory at Bournemouth as the perfect away performance.

The Whites ran out 2-0 winners on the south coast with David Ngog and Jermaine Beckford on the scoresheet for Dougie Freedman’s men against the Cherries.

Mills, a strong candidate for Man of the Match at the Goldsands Stadium, helped Bolton become the first club to prevent Bournemouth from scoring a league goal this season.

“We had a game plan and we stuck to it brilliantly,” admitted the 27-year-old. “It was the perfect away performance.

“I thought at times we gave Bournemouth possession at the back but we were patient with our play.

“We did the right things in the right areas and on the counter attack we were devastating. We could have scored four or five.

“We felt calm as a team and we did a lot of talking on the pitch. We got in the right positions early and we frustrated Bournemouth.

“We have won our last two away games and we have been well organised both times. As a defender it was great to have kept a clean sheet and that is what we pride ourselves on.

“The fans were excellent yet again, they packed the away end out and really got behind the team. When Jermaine [Beckford] scored our last goal, all the players went over as a team to show that we are all in it together.

“We need to take our away performances into games at the Reebok Stadium. We have an important game at home against Millwall on Saturday and we need to go on and win that.”

Nice to have a player acknowledge the fans and admit the team has let them down. It's obvious he'll say something along those lines but it's still nice to hear.
