As we have written off promotion this season and the likely exit of defenders in the summer Mears, Knight and maybe others. Comments coming from the club that Mills and Wheater struggle to play left sided central defence leaving Ream whilst OK has not been commanding. I think it makes sense to plan for the immediate future by attempting to sign Dawson and also a specialist left back (The signing of Trotter suggests this). There are other areas to be attended to, hopefully we will find the finance to do this.

I'll be amazed if Dawson comes to BWFC, especially as any wage money Dougie is allowed to spend would go on a LB - if he could actually find one who is available and affordable - which seems to be the problem

It says a lot that we've gone from Premier League loan targets like Spearing, Warnock, Dawson and Afobe to the likes of Danns, McNaughton and Feeney. It's a clear indication of how tight the budget is despite the wage bill being cut once again. This being the case is it really worth spending money on Dawson that will take away from the transfer budget in summer? I'd love to have him for the simple fact that he'll improve us no end but; as Bogger's said on this or another thread, he'd probably end up the difference between finishing lower end or mid table.

Obviously the gamble is that we continue sliding and end up relegated which of course would be a disaster, but failing that this season is pretty much a right off and we're going to need every penny we can get in the summer to re-shape the team, Freedman or not.

Have to agree with that, I don't think we'll go down with what we've got but with the finances set to get tighter it would seem better to muddle through to summer now then exit the end of contract players and build from there. If Dawson's still available try to sign him then as hopefully knight will be one of the departees anyway.

If Holden can get fit and play before the end of the season he may be offered a new deal (but on reduced wages or terms i would bet), the rest will go. This should free up a big chunk of cash for someone in the summer, hopefully not Dougie though!

We have to get through this season, but then what?
Players whose contracts expire in summer are:
Eagles
Moritz
Trotter
Holden
Juke
Mears
Danns
Knight
Lee Barrett

Save a few quid with that lot going but apart from Mears. Holden and Lee-Barrett they all feature fairly frequently in the first team so one thing we can be sure of is that the team that starts next season will be very different from this year.

Left side would be a worry, but I guess Tierney will be back and DF seems to have a love affair with Joe Mason who is a natural left winger (gawd knows why people think he's a striker?) so maybe he'll come eventually.
Holden would be a massive boost but we can't bank on his return so I imagine Dougie will be planning on loads of wheeling and dealing when these guys contracts are up.

It will be a completely different team in 8 months time.

Famous last words. Bigger clubs than us have said that and ended up in League 1. Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and Wolves to name three.

We have a team devoid of any character or fight, and very little quality - if it comes down to a battle to avoid relegation would you really put money on these ponces?

Wanderlust said it himself last week, as soon as Ipswich scored heads went down.

Wander,
I'd try and keep at least 5 of these:

 Moritz
 Trotter
Holden
Juke
Danns,
on the proviso that sensible deals will be sorted out with each of them. I know others will disagree. Eagles I'm not sure about. He's undoubtedly skilful but you never know whether he'll turn up or not.
Knight is the enigma- he's had some outstanding games but is prone to lapses of concentration and skill. If he could get his act together he could be  one of the best centre backs in the Championship.
Most people have got it in for him, but I think there's hope for him.
I now fully expect to be slagged off and strung up for my opinion.

To start the bandwagon- Nat I know I'm an utter, absolute bellend.

Difficult to say who will be retained, depends on current wages, cost of alternatives, willingness to take a reduction, lower cost alternatives coming through the development squad etc.
Started a new thread to try to find out if people know what current deal is - which should give us some idea of options for the summer.

Naughty Nat! I didn't say heads went down - I said that Ipswich got the upper hand for a short period after they'd been given the goal - after which we got back on parity for the most part but remained ineffectual going forward - despite all our efforts.
There's a difference between not trying and not being good enough as an attacking unit.

At this rate we might have assembled the whole of the Palace side that Dastardly Doogie had left behind (less Saha of course!) by this time next year. When they rename the Bok, they could call it the Kia Palace to make him feel even more at home and Gartside could be referred to as Lord Gartside and Kind Eddie!  :flash:

Cheers, just checked it out - could be in the team for tomorow if the paperwork gets sorted out.

I once labelled Moxey the worst footballer in the world. Lightweight and slow.

Perfect for Dougie's Bolton.

I hope the board give it another 27 hours or so before letting him sign anyone else.
