LIAM Feeney was last night on the verge of a loan switch to Blackburn Rovers.

The Millwall winger, who was a hit in a brief spell at the Reebok in October, was poised to join Wanderers’ Lancashire neighbours until the end of the season.

Feeney played just four times for Wanderers during a loan spell late last year and helped spark an upturn in results on his arrival alongside Neil Danns and Kevin McNaughton.

It has since been claimed the 27-year-old had agreed terms for a permanent move to the Whites as part of his loan contract, only for the deal to break down after his parent club requested the payment early.

He returned to The Den but has failed to hold down a regular place under Lions boss Ian Holloway, starting just one game this year.

Feeney is out of contract in the summer and is still thought to be on Dougie Freedman’s radar, with the Whites boss admitting he regretted not being able to land his services on a permanent basis in an interview with The Bolton News recently.

“Liam Feeney had a price on his head and I felt comfortable with it at the time,” he said.

“We were getting him on loan and I thought we would be able to pay that in January. I was happy with that, but the whole thing broke down because they wanted the money after he’d played two games for us.

“It’s a shame because he’s a good player and I still look out for him.”
