Team news: Who's fit for Tuesday?

Alex Baptiste will miss out on Tuesday night’s visit of his former club Blackpool to the Reebok Stadium.

The versatile defender is banned for one game following his straight red against Yeovil Town at the weekend.

Dougie Freedman did however confirm in his pre-match press conference that Matt Mills is back fit and eligible for selection, whilst Jermaine Beckford is once again in contention.

Marc Tierney continues to make good progress from a fractured leg, but will not be fit in time for Tuesday night’s game.

The only other absentees from Dougie Freedman’s squad remain Darren Pratley (shoulder), Stuart Holden and Joe Riley (both knee).

“We’ll obviously be without Alex Baptiste, but it gives someone else an opportunity,” Freedman said. “We’ve got Matt Mills back in the squad now, so we’re nice and strong there.

“As we speak right now, our squad is in a good place.”

Ref watch: Clattenburg in charge

Mark Clattenburg will take charge of Wanderers’ Sky Bet Championship clash with Blackpool on Tuesday evening.

A seasoned Premier League official who has been involved in the game for 14 years, the County Durham based referee has taken charge of 33 games so far this term, brandishing 115 yellow and two red cards in the process.

Having overseen Stoke’s 4-1 victory over Aston Villa last time out, Clattenburg last refereed a Bolton game when the Whites clashed with Burnley on the opening day of the season.

Peter Bankes and Adrian Holmes will run the line, with Darren Bond is the fourth official.

Barry Ferguson was on Radio Lancs after their win against Huddersfield saying how it's not how he wants to play football.

It sounded like he's going all Hoofball at the minute, out of necessity. Will that suit Douglas' defence?

Preview: Blackpool

Setting The Scene

Wanderers welcome Blackpool to the Reebok Stadium on Tuesday evening looking to add to their FA Cup victory over the Seasiders earlier this season.

With Jermaine Beckford’s strike ensuring the Whites’ progression as the expense of the Bloomfield Road outfit back in January, Barry Ferguson’s side make the short trip to BL6 having recorded victories over Millwall and Huddersfield Town in recent weeks.

A game which saw the two sides play out an entertaining 2-2 draw on the final day of the season last time out at the Reebok, Dougie Freedman’s side will be aiming to go one better this time around and pick up what would be their fourth victory in seven outings.

Team News

Alex Baptiste will miss Tuesday’s clash against his former employers after picking up a one-match ban courtesy of his red card against Yeovil Town on Saturday, but Matt Mills is back fit and eligible for selection.

Marc Tierney, Darren Pratley, Stuart Holden and Joe Riley all remain sidelined.

Opposition Camp

Despite a somewhat difficult season on the pitch, Blackpool travel to the Reebok Stadium in midweek with renewed optimism after two much-needed results on home soil in the past fortnight.

Following on from an impressive start to their domestic campaign, the Tangerines proceeded to find themselves amidst an 18-game winless streak and saw the dismissal of manager Paul Ince from the Blackpool hotseat.

That run however was ended with the disposal of Millwall at Bloomfield Road on March 11, and despite suffering defeat at the hands of leaders Leicester City last weekend, the Seasiders bounced back to pick up three points against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Now under the stewardship of Barry Ferguson, Blackpool will no doubt be hoping that their change in fortunes of late continues in Tuesday’s derby clash.

One To Watch

Having arrived at the club late last week, Tuesday’s meeting could see the introduction of striker Robert Earnshaw to the Blackpool faithful.

A seasoned frontman with over 14 years’ experience in the professional game, Earnshaw started out his career with Cardiff City as a youngster before enjoying spells with West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City, Derby County and Nottingham Forest before returning to South Wales in 2011.

Stints with Maccabi Tel Aviv and more recently Toronto FC followed for the 32-year-old, with the Seasiders securing his signature on Friday afternoon.

The striker will remain with the club until the end of the current campaign, with the Tangerines no doubt hoping that he can rediscover the form which has gained him plaudits throughout his career.

No doubt Nat's dream boy Bobby E will score on his debut although personally I hope Wheats rearranges his face for him - somebody needs to.

The team will be similar but with Bogdan between the sticks and Trotter on instead of Beckford.
