Charlton boss Jose Riga has challenged his side to show they can avoid the drop when they entertain Wanderers tomorrow.

The Belgian coach has won four of his 11 games in charge at the Valley since taking over from Chris Powell but suffered a major dent in his survival hopes after a 2-1 home defeat by fellow strugglers Barnsley on Tuesday night.

Riga remains confident the Addicks can stay up but has urged them not to waste their game in hand over their rivals. “From day one I knew the calendar (of games) would be difficult,” he said. “We are still the masters of our destiny and we have to manage it in the right way.

“From day one I said to everyone it would be difficult until the last day.

“We are still above (the bottom three) and we want to stay there.”

“The pressure was present before the game and is still present after the (Barnsley) game,” he said.

“I would prefer we would have made another big step but we have not made a step back.

“I don’t see a team who don’t believe and we have to stay this way.”
