With thanks to Roger who posted this earlier in the transfer thread -

WANDERERS have clinched the signing of Cardiff City striker Joe Mason on loan until January.

The 23-year-old striker spent two spells on loan with the club last season, scoring six goals in 16 appearances.

But his arrival at the Macron Stadium has been stalled after Cardiff insisted he extended his contract – due to run out in 2016 – before he went out again

Several other Championship clubs are thought to have enquired about Mason’s availability but Wanderers are now hoping to have him registered in time to face Bury in the Carling Cup first round on Tuesday night.

We need a bigger donkey in too. Hopefully they've got more carrots dangling out there.

Not exactly the long term plan that Dougie described though is it.

What do we intend to do with him now that we don't have the Juke to put him alongside?

If the answer is play him up front on his own, I'd rather we didn't sign him.

Pointless unless we play 4-4-2

This is part of the long term plan, don't be sarcastic.

It'll only be a positive if he changes the system to suit him, otherwise a loan striker, you might as well just keep Cdavies up there.

Mason worked was bobbins in his first spell here on his own up front - 2nd spell up front with the Juke, he was much more effective......

Now any reasonable thinking manager would play him in a 4-4-2 system alongside beckford or davies, however i'm not sure Dougie will do this.

Striker returns for season-long loan spell with the Whites

Bolton Wanderers have completed the signing of Cardiff City striker Joe Mason on a season-long loan deal.

The 23-year-old joins Bolton Wanderers on a temporary basis for the third time, following two separate loan stints at BL6 during the course of the 2013/14 campaign.

Mason made a total of 16 appearance for Wanderers throughout the course of last season, netting six goals.

As part of the loan agreement between the two sides, Mason will be ineligible to play against parent club Cardiff City during his time at Bolton.

The loan move is subject to international clearance from The FA.

It's better than nowt I suppose.  Now at least Doogie can't use his excuse about not having his strikers for the 2 up front master plan.

Dougie Freedman on Joe Mason capture

Dougie Freedman was happy to have bolstered his attacking options with the addition of striker Joe Mason on a season-long loan from Cardiff City.

The Republic of Ireland youth international enjoyed two separate loan spells at the Macron Stadium last season, scoring six goals in 16 appearances for the club.

With Mason’s return confirmed subject to international clearance, Freedman had this to say about his latest arrival.

“He’s a fantastic young player who at this particularly point of his career needs game time,” said the Whites boss. “It’s a good deal for all three parties.

“He’s been here before, he knows how we work and what we will expect of him.

“We’ve worked very hard to get the deal over the line. We’ve been very patient and Cardiff have been excellent with us.”
