I've read several Jo Nesbo and Henning Mankell books over the last few years, as well as "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo And Quite A Few Unresolved Daddy Issues" and I enjoyed their moody bleakness, so my appetite for Scandinavian travel has been well and truly whetted.

Has anyone been?

Is it really eight quid a pint?

Can you get Pudding, Chips & Gravy?

Will they mug me?

Do I need to learn rudimentary Norwegian to get by?

Can you get there by plane or is it just boats?

Any genuine help greatly appreciated.

Skol!

I have never been but I know people who have. The scenery is breathtaking but the biggest downside is the cost of alcohol. Beer is very expensive.

In the 70s I used to fly to Stavanger regularly (beer was a fiver even then) and the nearby ferry port was rammed with Norwegians who found it cheaper to ship their cars over to Newcastle etc to be repaired. They'd combine it with a weekend of shopping and go back quids in.

I've been to the south of Sweden and Copenhagen both beautiful places, but it depends what you're looking for, I wouldn't recommend it particularly if you're just looking for a piss up and some fish and chips.

I hate using this word but in terms of culture it is "buzzing"

Been to Finland for a festival, and it's stunning.
The scenery is breathtaking.
Nearly everyone in the country has a sauna!

Believe it or not, I'm not really into going abroad just to get trolleyed - you can do that at home if you want to. (Which I don't, anymore.)

We're actually more into museums and historical stuff.

We'll probably give Stockholm a go.
