Wanderers are lining up an ambitious loan swoop for Norwich City striker Gary Hooper.

It is understood that new boss Neil Lennon will offer his former Celtic striker a short-term loan before the January transfer window.

Hooper was on the verge of an England international call-up because of his scoring exploits at Parkhead, which saw him net 82 times in 132 appearances in Glasgow.

He moved to Norwich for £5million and was the Canaries’ top scorer last season as they were relegated from the Premier League but a calf injury has restricted his opportunities this season, with only one Capital One Cup game to show for his efforts so far.

Lennon wants to add goals to his side and will now investigate whether the club can mount a realistic financial offer to land Hooper and help him play his way back to full fitness.

Meanwhile the current Celtic boss Ronny Delia has warned Lennon not to pursue any interest in Kris Commons.

The Wanderers boss had played down the chances of a reunion with the former Nottingham Forest and Derby County goal-getter but rumours north of the border have nevertheless persisted that he is to take advantage of the 31-year-old’s expiring contract at Parkhead.

Delia insists talks continue with Commons and that he will not be heading south.

“We have very good dialogue and the process is on-going with Kris’ contract talks. So this doesn’t frighten me.

“We won’t want to sell to anyone. We want to build a team here.”

Just what we need I think. We are too short upfront.

Be amazed if we can get him but worth a try I suppose!

Well he's not getting any game time at Narridge and he knows Lennon, so why not?

He's just come back from injury though? I think. So unless they're just thinking a short term fitness thing I don't see why they let him out.

Cost good money, hasn't been bad for them when he's fit and we'd probably only pay half his wages.

this is a no-brainer, if he's available then he would be fantastic, a proper goalscorer. Even on a short term deal he would score goals to move us up the table.

I think "ambitious" doesn't do the scale of this justice. "Wildly over-optimistic" is perhaps more accurate.
The EDP (Norwich's BN) has frequently quoted Neil Adams as saying he is almost ready to "unleash Gary Hooper on the Championship" now that the end of his injury problems are in sight.
Hooper is viewed as a natural partner for Grabban and is undoubtedly in Norwich's plans as far as the local media are concerned i.e. they suggest a move to Bolton won't happen in a month of Sundays.
Never know in football, but unless Lennon has been given a lot more financial leeway than Freedman has he's going to struggle to bring in quality players.
