From what I've read over the past few days the notion that there's only one interpretation is false. Aside from the Sunni & Shia's there's also how old Arabic is interpreted which leads to differences. As you say though the whole thing is complete bollocks but it's not going anywhere, hardening attitudes towards all Islamic people is only going to make things worse IMO.

It could be argued I'm sure but I think it'd be pretty hard when you consider the kind of life Mohammed led and his teachings.

like unfaithful women are to be stoned to death, thieves hands are to be cut off, women are to be commanded and beaten, enemies to be dismembered, aggressive expansion and war lust, paradise for martyrdom.

And Mohammed is the one true messenger of God, I simply don't understand how you can interpret his words in any other way than that it is the word of God, to do so would be to know the mind of God which no one can do, and it would be contradicting the prophet himself.

Every person of faith varies in how strictly they apply their religion, I know Sikhs who shave, Muslims who drink and Catholics who use contraception. So maybe interpretation isn't the best word, but how you apply the teachings of an outdated book to your modern day life is up to each individual. Hence 'extremists' are few and far between in the UK.

I get all that, I just don't understand why someone would deem to alter the word of God thats all. That would be to suggest God got something wrong and living in that way would be a sin.

Things are certainly getting way out of hand in Nigeria. Sadly, this story gathered hardly any media attention because of the recent events in France. Nigeria is due to hold general elections in May and it might well be time for a change of government because the Goodluck Sambo leadership has failed to tackle the escalating Boko Harum atrocities committed in the north of the country.

The name of the forum section is Wandering Minds for general and non Wanderers stuff. You should stick to this part of the forum only as the other two sections are of real interest to Wanderers fans not troglodytes from Chorley and beyond.
Hope this helps?

I concur. It would be a pretty boring forum if all we were allowed to discuss was football related matters. It's a bloody big world out there with plenty of diverse subjects to debate. As long as the subject isn't Bruce Forsyth related ( we already have a thread for that ) then I'm all for it.

There is absolutely no proof anything is right, no one has seen any god, heard any god, there is no evidence of a god. If someone claimed in 2015 to be the son of God they would be ridiculed and laughed at and thought to be nuts, but because of writings in books from 2000 years ago people believe it?
It is just bonkers.

Just because something isn't proven doesn't mean it didn't happen. It was a bit more difficult back in year zero to record what went on, the internet was still in its infancy.

I saw God once, he spoke to me in a dream. He said I was chosen to be a legend.
My girlfriend saw God in a dream and she told her to get the washing in before 7am.

How do you stop events like this happening?.... too late I'm afraid.

6th century is when the Prophet walked the earth - which is why it's year 14 something in the Arabic calendar

The link between these terrorists and Islam is that they claim to do it in the name of Islam - whereas 99.99999999% of Muslims totally condemn what they are doing.

So if I kill a tourist and claim to do it in the name of the Conservative Party, does that make all Tories murderers?

Just got back from Cuba where "civilised" Christians are denying suspects all rights under the Geneva convention at Guantanamo so they can torture them at will. They claim to do this in the name of "freedom and the American way".

But of course they are American so nobody is going to say diddly squat about it.

But by the logic of whoever started this thread, Americans are all torturing murderers - as well as ignorant wankers.

Havana was amazing/unique - everything I'd hoped it would be. Beautiful young hookers.
Varadero beaches are great and the hotel amazing but TBF we could have been in a beach resort anywhere so I wouldn't handle a 10 hour flight for a beach holiday.
If we go again it would be traveling around using casas particulares which are basically B & Bs - cheap and real.

Did you do the two centre thing?

We stayed in the Parque Central in Havana and it was fantastic. You could almost smell the history.

Less impressed with Varadero.

Like Lusty says, you could be anywhere.

And it was full of pissed up Canadian kids fighting, drinking and shagging.
