I'm not spinning it any way but I honestly wish people would stop and think before posting comments which lump all Muslims in the same bracket.

That's what the neo-Christian right in 'Murica want you to do and in doing so, you're validating their claims that everybody called Patel is a terrorist and that makes it easier for them to keep pushing their agenda.

Yeah, all organised religion is a farce but in singling out the Muslims you're helping the powerful, rich people in 'Murica (and over here probably) to keep pushing their interests.

And it's no wonder there are thousands, if not millions, of young Muslims all round the world who hate us and are happy to machine gun tourists on a beach because they see us all in the same light.

They generalise their views of us based on limited information and indoctrination.

(A bit like all the trailer park dwelling, gun toting, possum eating, God fearing rednecks in the States do.)

Is it not our duty as human beings to try and be different, stop for a bit and actually think about what's really going on?

The Christian Right Wing has an agenda, as does the Fundamentalist mob and the two are diametrically opposed.

Until rational people who occupy the middle ground step in and say: "No! Enough!" this mess will never be resolved.

Just my view but it seems obvious.

Tunisians in general are a happy go lucky race, and will give you their last crumb, I have a lot of Tunisian friends, all of which are appalled at this atrocity, not just for their jobs, but because they are a proud and peaceful bunch, the fear now is, that if as will most likely happen, tourism stops, more youngsters will be drawn into IS to stave off poverty.

We visited Sousse in the late 70's probably 77, stayed at The Hotel Tour De Khalef, never felt threatened by terrorism back then, maybe the odd rogue nothing serious.

Anyway we enjoyed it, visited The Great Mosque at Kiarouan, El Djem, The Picturesque Village of Sidi Bou Said but the Highlght for me and  something I will always remember is going to see The Troglodytes on the edge of The Sahara Desert.

No, that was Tatooine.

Which is a real place in Tunisia.

(But it's actually spelt Tatauine.)

Half a day on a coach but well worth it because I am a nerd.

No droids though.

Edit: Crossed in posting.

Not really up on Star Wars but I dont remember the tour guide mentioning him.

I do remember some of  the people showing and being proud of the Medals they got for fighting The Germans  in WW11.

My Grandad included - He was there during World War Eleven.

One of the reasons we first went to Tunisia was because I wanted to see where he'd fought Rommel and his Afrika Korps.

How ironic would it have been if he'd spent a year being shot at and came home safe to my Nan and then I'd gone there 70 years later and been mown down on a sunbed.....?

The world is properly mad and makes no sense.

Our galaxy has 100 billion plus stars in it.

That's just OUR galaxy.

They (the astronomists/scientists) reckon theres 100 billion plus galaxy's out there not including ours and again each one will have a 100 billion stars in them.

Similarly they reckon that each galaxy probably as at least 100 million planets in them.

The closesr star to us is around 4.25 light years away.

That's travelling ar the speed of light.

One light year equals about 6 trillion miles.

So that's about 25 trillion miles away.

25 trillion miles just to pitch up at the first star nearest to us.

Our galaxy is over 100 light years across - so that's 600 trillion miles just to go from one side to the other in a stright line, let alone stop off at each of the 100 billion planets that are out there somewhere in it.

The other 100 billion galaxy's out there are speeding away from us at about 80% the speed of light.

The nearest major galaxy to us is 2.5 million light years away - that's a lot of trillions of miles away.

It's just one of over 100 billion galaxy's out there.

In reality our civilisation - the muslims, christians, jews, atheists, agnostics, whatever - will wither and die in the fullness of time without ever meeting a creature from another world - the distance is simply too great for it to happen.

Did a divine being create just us - or the whole universe?

If they created just us - who created the rest of the universe?

So I guess he/it/she created everything.

A 100 billion solar systems with a 100 billion stars in each and a 100 billion planets in each too.

I guess our divine being looks over all his creations equally?

In which case he is everywhere at once.

If so he is faster than the speed of light - and thus can go back in time.

It just dosen't make any sense that such a supreme being would want to spend any time on such an insignificant, trivial - and to them - a barbaric and backwards civilisation such as humanity.

What have they to gain from our being?

Certainly they can't crave the praise and worship from us - might as well get themselves a pet dog if that was all they were after.

God / Allah / Jehovah, simply does not exist.

There is no heaven above us, nor hell below.

The sooner people finally grasp that religion of any sort was created by man to control his fellow man, the sooner we can move away from all this insanity of killing people simply because they don't support the 'same team' as they do.

That utter prat Cameron was on the radio again spreading more lies.

he said that this was a "perversion of a great religion"

What part of LITERAL interpretation of the word of God doesn't he understand, you cannot pervert the word of God.

Having flogged this subject to death and reiterated my view that the issues are socio-cultural rather than religious I think we need to discuss virgins and the role of sex in the recruitment of extremists.

The other day, a British Muslim observer commented that she thought that young British men were attracted to the IS cause by sexual power. She said that most of the thousand or so male Brits that have gone off to die in Syria were sexually inadequate/unattractive/uncomfortable with little or no chance of getting their end away for one reason or another however they felt (in her opinion) that if they brandished a Kalishnikov and ran around blowing stuff up it would turn them into objects of desire and females would be queuing up to marry them.

That, in conjunction with the stories coming out about IS officers taking female Kurd prisoners as sex slaves and sexual favours being used as an incentive to cajole young men into action implies to me that nookie (or rather sexual dominance of unwilling partners) is perhaps playing a bigger role than anything else in giving IS momentum.

Which brings me to the question of virgins.
Culturally, many nations impose virginity on females and denegrate - even murder them if they consider having sex out of wedlock. Young males are encouraged to marry a virgin. At the same time a blind eye is turned to their own promiscuity. Must be confusing for everyone involved and the mathematics are dubious. The promise of virgins for suicide bombers obviously has a few inherent logical problems but my point relates to the idea of using sex with virgins as an incentive.
In my experience it's seldom as good as making love to a woman who knows what she's doing and it's only natural for a virgin to feel some tension and potentially discomfort (depending on whether the hymen was previously broken) so IMO a virgin doesn't bode well for rampant free-loving sex first time out.

If the suicide bombers knew anything about female sexuality, surely they should be incentivised by 50 slappers instead? Or maybe the Brits could send over a special task force of hookers to show them the error of their ways?

Interesting way of looking at this problem WL.
