As I've said before on here, I'm all for made up characters if they're harmless and it's obvious that they are simply comic creations, designed to make people laugh but when it becomes apparent that several of the main characters on a site are nothing more than alternate identities for a couple of the site's main contributors.......it leaves you feeling cheated and you start to question everything.
And it all starts to seem a bit pointless.
And odd.
Please allow me to try and explain the way I've always viewed forums - and not just this one.
In the early days I too thought that most other posters were genuine - and I even got into arguements defending the right for them to have a point of view even if it was contrary to everybody elses.
Soon enough I worked out that what was being said by some wasn't what they actually believed themselves but nevertheless it often it led to debate (heated at times!).
Now this 'alternative' view of things led to a few things, most ignored it, some played along and a few got really angry over it.
The ignorers by and large seemed to be the sensible - but deadly dull posters - like myself
But however the 'playing alongers' did lead though to many a laugh and brought out the humour - which many like myself appreciated - the surrealist world into which the threads would morph into. The 'history' it builds up in characters, many of which I've now followed for years. If I said 'wonky tits', 'building a wall', or 'in London with no trousers on' - I think we all know posters who I am talking about - simply from the humour of the 'non' sensible approach to posting on a forum!
I'm probably in the minority but stuff like this makes me laugh - I can have all the 'seriousness' I want from my real life, everytime I'm not on here. This is my escape from real life for a few minutes - I think many others do the same too.
And these 'wums' can and do get to be 'loved' by some of us too!
One major problem though is when some people take things far to far - both from the 'wumming' and from reacting to the wumming.
I've always thought for a forum to work (how I like them to work) you needed the balance between humour and seriousness. For instance The Wanderer is a very serious forum -the most fun they seem to have is when they try to 'pun' something or other (just to show off how clever they think they are!) but fcuk me how dull and dreary that site is.
On the other hand sites that aren't 'regulated' to any reasonable extent, or those where the owners believe they can do what they want on them and are above the law because it is 'theirs' - such as the Bolton News forum for the former and Burnden Aces for the latter, have failed - one closing down completely and the other a mere shadow of what it once was.
Yes wumming goes to far at times. Yes some people's reactions to wums go to extremes too!
So as long as someone try's to keep things in some sort of balance between the two then surely that would allow for the best of all forums wouldn't it? It is after all the middle ground between deadly boring and anarchy.
I don't believe anyone thinks we really have a Preston business woman of the years in our midst, nor a sausage swallowing wall builder to name but two - but should we 'kill' these characters off simply because they are not real?
The problem is when the authors behind fake accounts 'overpowers' the site with too many of them - and as far as I know we have stopped that from happening.
We don't knowingly allow more than one account per person - and that includes the mods and site owners - but we can't enforce that rule - we simply can't prevent it happening with multiple email address and proxy serves being available to all.
We do, do our best but we aren't your mums either - you are big boys and girls and should be old enough and smart enough by now not to believe everything you read on an internet forum!
Some things have happened recently that I for one have not been party to and it hasn't made for Nuts finest hour either but at the end of the day so what!?
Nobody died (like they have in Paris), nobody got their bank accounts hacked into, or any other meaningful shit like that, the worse that happened were that a few names were called and one or two had their pride dented.
FFS if that was all that happened to me in real life then I'd have nothing to worry about and I wouldn't need a place like Nuts to escape to once in a while!
So in an attempt to heal the wounds people may have - on behalf of anyone feeling a need of an apology from anybody about anything - SORRY.
Is there any chance that we now can put all this behind us and get back to having a good laugh together please?
What's the point in everybody losing out over some internet stupidness.
Has Paris taught us nothing about whatever is writen our drawn should not be taken too seriously, ffs!?

Fine, but I think the Scott account should be shut down if we are to move forward. Let the others go on but there's no point in that one really is there?
(Also Paris should not be used for political gain, Farage and Donald Trump learned that last week)

I can't say I'd really given any thought to the Scott account being 'fake' until recently. Even now I can't say for certain one way or the other but then again that is true for 99% of all the other accounts on here to.
As for Paris and political gain, I'm not.
I'm just showing how utterly stupid it is for people to get so worked up over something such as a few words on a small meaningless internet site.
