Neil Danns was delighted to see Bolton Wanderers clinch victory against Sheffield Wednesday, complimenting his team-mates on a job well done against the Owls.
Goals from Liam Feeney and Darren Pratley helped the Whites secure a 2-1 victory at Hillsborough against a side that came into the fixture having won their last three league matches without conceding a goal.
Assessing Bolton’s performance after the match when speaking to bwfc.co.uk, Danns shared his pride at the way the Trotters went about their business to secure the win.
“Everyone knows Sheffield Wednesday have been a run of good form recently,” said the midfielder. “We knew it was going to be a tough game but we were confident of getting the three points.
“They were the home side, coming into it off the back of some good results but these are the times when you need players to stand up and be counted and I think the whole team stood up today.
“We controlled the first half and probably could have had a few more goals. The boys started well, passed it well, and we felt confident out there.
“But we knew they were going to have spells in the game. However, we weathered the storm and our experience has shown.”
He continued: “To concede the penalty when we did was a massive blow. If they hadn’t got the penalty I feel we’d have gone on to score three or four.
“We had a setback but the boys kept going, kept playing our football and we didn’t let it affect us too much.
“We knew they’d come out all guns blazing after half-time so we needed to get through that first 15 minutes.
“In the last five minutes they were always going to push players forward but the boys were resilient and we saw it out.”
Danns was also full of praise for his midfield partner Josh Vela, after seeing the 21-year-old fielded in his natural position against the Owls having seen him utilised as an emergency right-back in recent months.
“Josh did brilliantly, he is Mr Reliable for someone so young,” said Danns. “He plays like he’s been playing for years. All the boys are really happy for him.
“Straight after the final whistle I went up to him and gave him a pat on the back because I think he deserved it. He has a bright future ahead of him and you can see him just getting better and better.”
