JAY Spearing has been told his loan move to Watford is on hold until Wanderers bring in some fresh faces.
After missing out on a string of attacking signings, Neil Lennon is wary of leaving himself too short as the Whites head to the skipper’s former club Liverpool in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.
The midfielder’s loan to Vicarage Road is now fixed up and does not rely on a player coming the other way but Lennon will not give it his full blessing until he has made signings.
“There will be no changes to Jay’s situation unless I get some bodies in,” the manager confirmed to The Bolton News.
"We tried Fabbrini, couldn't get the deal done, Lewis Baker, we couldn't get that one done and Lloyd Dyer, we were interested in him but he wanted to stay closer to the Midlands.
“We really need to bring people in now and help the group we have got.”
Wanderers are keeping fingers crossed young striker Zach Clough will be fit to feature at Anfield.
After a stunning scoring debut against Wigan in the previous round, the 19-year-old has sat out the last two games with a hamstring strain.
The club are cautiously optimistic the academy graduate will be able to take his place in the squad on Saturday evening but will monitor his fitness closely in training over the next couple of days.
Lennon might be short on options but the players he does have at his disposal did him proud at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
After picking up a first league win in 2015 Wanderers travel to Merseyside for the televised game with confidence high.
“The whole football club should be looking forward to that game now,” he said.
“I’ve taken teams to the Nou Camp and to Juventus, and places like that, but to go to Anfield and take Bolton there is very special for me too.
“My players are playing for the club, not me, but the club and I think some of the football they played (against Wednesday) was tremendous, considering it was a gluepot of a pitch.
“I wanted to make a statement because we’d only taken one point from the last six.
“But that was a difficult venue and the players had their tails up.
"I think we have set down a marker and I think we go to Liverpool in very good shape.”
