Wanderers starlet Zach Clough was born the same day as Emile Heskey made his Premier League debut – not that the seasoned campaigner would thank you for pointing that out.

Linked by that coincidence, the two players might also pair up for the Whites against Liverpool at Anfield this evening.

Heskey has tipped the 19-year-old academy graduate to make an impact if he gets a chance against the Reds, but would rather not be reminded of the age gap.

“Yeah, I heard about it on Twitter,” he told The Bolton News. “Thanks for making me feel old.

“I’ve been really impressed with Zach – he’s got a lot of talent.”

It’s approaching 20 years since Heskey started his career with Leicester City but the big striker is not looking beyond the end of this season before deciding whether to hang up his boots.

“Who knows? I have a contract until the end of the season so I'll see what happens,” he said. “I feel I can play another year - whether it happens is another thing.”

The former England international believes ageism still exists in football, despite several high-profile players showing they can play on well into their thirties.

“You’ve got Lamps (Frank Lampard) doing it, Didier (Drogba), Eidur (Gudjohnsen), myself. Steven (Gerrard) is 35 in May,” he said. “It has always been there. It is up to players to show they are capable of playing past 30.

“Arsene Wenger doesn’t sign many players over 30 or he gives them just one-year contracts. Teddy Sheringham played until he was 41 or 42. It's how you live your life."
