Former England international Emile Heskey is training with Wanderers in an effort to earn a deal at the Macron Stadium, The Bolton News understands.
The former Liverpool, Wigan and Leicester City striker, 37 in January, has not abandoned hopes of resuming his playing career despite being released by Australian club Newcastle Jets in the summer.
While there has been no confirmation from the club, several reports this evening claim Heskey has accepted an invitation to prove his fitness with the Whites over the course of the next couple of weeks.
With 36-year-old Eidur Gudjohnsen still putting the final touches to his own move – Neil Lennon could potentially name a front two in the New Year with a combined age of 73 should he decide to give Heskey a deal too.
But with a lack of attacking options at his disposal following Jermaine Beckford’s move to Preston North End, the Wanderers boss is showing he is happy to mix it with the heavyweights by bringing in a pair with 140 international caps between them.
