This is what happens when a football club is skint. We can no longer afford has-beens like Hierro, Campo and Okocha who were all in a similar position to Heskey but it still looks like we might end up with a relatively geriatric team if the budget can stretch to it.

That said, I think it's a good thing to bring in players who have something to prove. If they fail, it won't be for the want of trying.

Like has already been said, if it is as a mentor to the younger lads then maybe but can't gudjohnson do that. If it's a replacement for beckford and means we can't get anyone else then no thanks

Oh and joe cole played for lille, sorry for being pedantic but im sure the terms of his loan contract werent that lille quit the french league and joined the premiership for one season
