Blackburn Rovers boss Gary Bowyer stoked up tonight’s derby by claiming Wanderers have been “fortunate” to bring in so many reinforcements this season.
Neil Lennon has been forced to plug holes with loan players in the last couple of months as 12 first teamers fell to injury, including the likes of Darren Pratley, Zach Clough, David Wheater, Craig Davies, Andy Lonergan and Adam Bogdan.
Paddy McCarthy and Giles Coke took the total of loanees at the Macron to nine this week.
But Bowyer, whose Rovers side is currently under a transfer embargo for exceeding spending limits in the last financial year, complained his own side do not have the same luxury as they deal with a handful of missing players.
Rovers are without Alex Baptiste and Jay Spearing – on loan FROM Wanderers – as well as captain Grant Hanley, Shane Duffy, Jason Lowe, Josh King and David Dunn.
“We’re stretched in terms of number and we’re not as fortunate as Bolton in terms of the number of loans they have because of our embargo so we’ll deal with what we’ve got and have a right good go at it,” Bowyer said.
While Lennon is unlikely to agree with his opposite number’s assessment – he does concur that tonight’s atmosphere will be a special one.
Bowyer hopes his home advantage can count for something after an impressive performance at Liverpool in the FA Cup at the weekend.
“From an atmosphere point of view, it’s a brilliant game for us,” he said. “Ewood should be rocking given the amount that Bolton will bring and also our own fans who should be buoyed by what they saw on Sunday.
“I thought the away following was magnificent, the noise they made was tremendous and we need them to meet the challenge of doing the same again and if they do that it will lift the players tremendously.”
