Having notched both Wanderers’ goals in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Millwall, Adam Le Fondre was pleased with the way in which the team bounced back to winning ways on home soil.
The on-loan forward hit his fourth and fifth goals for the Whites during the first period against the Lions, with the visitors unable to breach a resilient Bolton rear-guard in the second 45 minutes.
And speaking to the club following the final whistle against Neil Harris’ Lions, Le Fondre admitted his delight at the way in which the side acquitted themselves against a team fighting for their place in the league.
“It was an important result for us to bounce back from our defeat at Blackburn,” said the striker. “I think we all agreed that it wasn’t our greatest performance, but to win comfortably at home is a good thing for us and is exactly what we want.
“The boys have put a couple of goals on a plate for me and I’ve just done my best which has luckily paid off.
“I don’t think I was personally at my best today, but to still manage to score two goals is ultimately what I’m about really and I’m pleased to have got those under my belt.”
He continued: “Up until today, I felt like I’ve been playing quite well but as I said, today probably wasn’t my best performance but I still managed to score a couple.
“I just want to keep scoring goals – it’s ultimately what I’m about and I’m really enjoying playing here and working under the gaffer. He really seems to be bringing the best out of me.”
Le Fondre also reserved praise for fellow loanee Ben Amos in the Bolton goal, with the goalkeeper having been called upon on a number of occasions to keep Millwall at bay.
“Ben is proving to be a really important player for us and you can see his quality with the saves he made,” he explained. “You aren’t at Manchester United for such a long period of time without having quality and he’s got that in abundance.
“On the whole though, we can make a big point out of the fact that we won so comfortably today – I think we can put our worries of the last few weeks with conceding late goals to bed and push on for the rest of the season.”
With a long midweek trip to Portman Road next on the agenda, the frontman admitted that while the team are more than aware of the task in front of them, they will make the trip to Suffolk with no fear.
“Ipswich is a really tough place to go and it’s hard to impose yourself on the big pitch there,” he said. “It’s going to be a difficult game because they’re a quality team who are going for promotion.
“It will be hard, but the gaffer will have his plan in place and hopefully we’ll be able to get something from the match.”
