Ref watch: David Coote takes the whistle

David Coote will take charge of Wanderers’ home match against Blackpool at Macron Stadium on Saturday as Championship football resumes after the March international break.

The game will mark the Nottinghamshire-based referee’s first visit to BL6, though he has officiated one Whites’ match in the past – last season’s away victory over Birmingham City where goals from Neil Danns and Jermaine Beckford saw Bolton clinch a 2-1 win.

Refereeing his first Championship fixture in January 2011, Mr Coote also took charge of last season’s League One Play-Off Final at Wembley between Rotherham United and Leyton Orient.

So far this season he has officiated 23 matches, handing out 90 yellow cards and four red cards.

Mark Astley and Robert Merchant will run the line, while Tony Harrington is the fourth official.

Preview: Bolton v Blackpool

SETTING THE SCENE
Bolton Wanderers host Blackpool on Saturday in their first match at Macron Stadium for three weeks as Championship football resumes after the March international break.

With the Tangerines resigned to plying their trade in League One next season, this weekend’s match could seal Lee Clark’s side’s fate if results go against them.

Yet to win away from home this season, Blackpool know the odds will be stacked against them as they face a Whites side that has lost just twice at BL6 since Neil Lennon’s arrival, with the Northern Irishman keen for Bolton to maintain their impressive run at home between now and the rest of the season.

TEAM NEWS
Simeon Slavchev looks set to be out for the rest of the season after injuring his ankle ligaments on international duty with Bulgaria, but Neil Danns comes back into contention after serving his two-game suspension.

Meanwhile, Mark Davies (knee) is closing in on a first-team return but Saturday’s game will come too soon for him, while Darren Pratley (hamstring) is also nearing a return before the end of the campaign.

Max Clayton (knee), Zach Clough (shoulder), Kevin McNaughton (leg), Marc Tierney (leg) and David Wheater (hamstring) all remain long-term absentees.

LAST BLACKPOOL XI (v Leeds United, D1-1)
Lewis, Clarke, Addison, Dunne, Hall, O’Dea, Perkins, Orlandi, Jacobs, Cubero, Madine.

ONE TO WATCH
A recent loan arrival at Blackpool, Gary Madine has enjoyed an encouraging start to life at Bloomfield Road having scored three goals from nine appearances since making the temporary move from Sheffield Wednesday.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Starting his career with Carlisle United, a prolific start to the 2010/11 season – in which he scored 13 goals - earned him a move to Sheffield Wednesday in January 2011.

Continuing that run into the following year, Madine scored 18 goals as the Owls won promotion to the Championship as League One runners-up.

However, Madine struggled to replicate that form in the English second tier, instead spending the last 12 months on loan at former clubs Carlisle and Coventry, before making the move to Blackpool in February.

LAST TIME THEY WERE HERE (Bolton 1-0 Blackpool, 25 March 2014)
In a game of few chances, David Wheater’s first half header decided what was a scrappy Tuesday night Lancashire derby against the last time Wanderers hosted Blackpool.

The defender celebrated his return to the side by connecting with Jay Spearing’s outswinging corner, to give Bolton a deserved early lead.

And despite Blackpool’s best efforts, the Tangerines were unable to find a way past Adam Bogdan as the Hungarian enjoyed a rather quiet night’s work during his 100th appearance for the Whites.

You're always cross, I think you'll be mildly angry if we lose.

Personally, I'll be seething.

Anything less than a 2 goal margin will look almost as embarrassing as the debt our club is in. Shit.

I had a dream last night we will lose 2~0. Had a few of these before, Our last Premiership season I dreamt we would lose to Fulham 3~0 and Clint Dempsey would score first, and I dreamt we would beat Newcastle 5~1 the season before.

I need a drink after watching that shite.

To be fair, it wasn't just us that were to blame for this being an awful match. What a thoroughly dreadful team Blackpool are from a sportsmanship point of view (amongst others). Not that you'd expect anything different from a team managed by that disgusting bloke Lee Clark. It's been a long time since I've seen time-wasting like that at the Reebok/Macron, anybody would think they still had a chance of staying up. By the 93rd minute I was more bothered about them not winning the match than I was about us taking a measly point.

All in all, a thoroughly disappointing day out. This should have been a straightforward 1-0 win at worst. Instead we've got various players out of position (Walker on the right, Feeney on the left), we've got ALF up front on his own, and when Lennon rightly recognises at half time that we need more quality up front, he brings on Heskey. So we never really got going.
