Young Wanderers forward Chris Lester scored and completed 90 minutes for Hartlepool United’s reserves this afternoon after joining Ronnie Moore’s League Two side on trial.
The 20-year-old Salfordian played for Pools’ second-string as they won 7-4 at Scunthorpe United, netting the sixth goal nine minutes from time from outside the box.
It was a solid display from the Whites wide man and with his contract due to run out at the Macron Stadium in the summer, Lester will be hoping to impress again at Victoria Park during his time in the north east.
Lester has had a stop-start time since graduating from the youth set-up at Wanderers.
The right winger was part of the under-18s side that shocked Tottenham 8-4 at White Hart Lane in the FA Youth Cup in 2013 – playing in the same team as fellow scorers that night Zach Clough and Tom Walker.
But while Neil Lennon has promoted that pair into the first-team picture since his arrival, Lester has been restricted to outings for the Under-21 development squad.
The youngster, who was called up by Northern Ireland’s U21s just under two years ago and earned a nomination for the Rising Star prize at the North West Football Awards in 2013, made his first senior appearance for the Whites from the bench against Leicester at home last April after an earlier spell on loan at Chester.
His full debut came at the start of this season in the 3-2 Capital One Cup victory at Crewe in August under former boss Dougie Freedman.
But he has not figured since – not even making the 18-man matchday squad under Lennon despite a catalogue of injuries at senior level.
