WANDERERS hope to make some significant progress in the transfer market this week.

It is expected the finishing touches will be put on deals for ex-Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Madine and former Rotherham United defender Craig Morgan.

But now that Adam Bogdan has turned down a lucrative contract to stay with the Whites next season and talks with Darren Pratley have slowed to a crawl, Lennon wants to act quickly and divert those funds elsewhere.

Ben Amos is the number one goalkeeping target, with the Manchester United man out of contract at the end of the month and keen on a return to the Macron.

Lennon wants to land the 24-year-old as quickly as possible before looking for an experienced keeper to provide competition.

After a frustrating few weeks, the Wanderers boss now has a better idea of the money as his disposal and is in a position to start reeling in some of his transfer targets.

While the cost-cutting continues at the club, Lennon remains confident he will be given the funds to create a competitive squad next season.

“We’re doing a lot of hard work in the background at the moment, trying to sell the club to them and getting them to come and play for us,” he said.

“Every other club is in the same boat. But I think some are not in the same position financially – I think they are in a worse position than us.

“With us cutting the wage bill, and we may cut it a little bit more, it gives me a bit of scope to bring in the players we want.

“There are players out there that won’t cost a lot of money and will improve us. It’s up to us to try and find them.”

The tight budget at Bolton makes reports linking the club with ex-Stoke City midfielder Wilson Palacios all the more surprising.

The Honduras international was released at the Britannia Stadium after playing just 14 games in four years, and is reported to have earned £2million a year in wages.

Palacios, who has also turned out of Birmingham City, Wigan and Spurs in his time in England, turns 31 in July and does match the midfield-enforcer type that Lennon has been looking for.

But with Sheffield Wednesday already said to have been scared off by his wage demands, it would come as some surprise to see Wanderers get involved.

People like balotelli are apparently up for grabs and he's chasing crap like madine.

I despair.

Sarcasm noted.
FYI I wasn't being sarcastic. I think Madine and Morgan are about right considering our current position i.e. steady and affordable with an outside chance of proving themselves to be winners at this level.
If you substitute Morgan and Madine for Mills and Cavies I reckon we're almost looking at a like-for-like in terms of ability so if they can be brought in on less money why not?

A straight swap does however imply a lack of "ambition" but you should know by now HN that I am not one to expect anything extraordinary given the current situation.

That said, I don't understand why Lennon borrowed high rent young European talent like Slavchev and Rochinha unless he thought transfer funds were going to appear as if by magic.
