ADAM Bogdan will seal his move to Liverpool today with his replacement all-but confirmed at Wanderers.
The Hungary international will become Brendan Rodgers’ third agreed signing of the summer at Anfield, following James Milner and Danny Ings, ending an eight-year stay at Bolton.
But while Bogdan’s departure came as a blow for Neil Lennon, who had done his level-best to convince the 27-year-old to stay, the disappointment has been tempered with the news Manchester United’s Ben Amos is close to agreeing terms with the club.
The Macclesfield-born stopper was a huge hit with Wanderers fans in a two-month loan last season and is now sorting the fine details of his contract after undergoing a medical.
To make the move all the more sweet, it has emerged Nottingham Forest – managed by ex-Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman – tried to hijack the deal at the 11th hour.
Freedman is searching for a new keeper this summer and looked to nip in this week as Amos’s release was officially confirmed at Old Trafford.
But Lennon has landed his man – with the deal expected to be announced officially by Wanderers once his contract at Old Trafford has expired completely at the end of the month.
Amos played nine times for Wanderers last season, making his debut as a second-half substitute for the injured Andy Lonergan in a 4-1 defeat at Forest – which was his first competitive game in more than 12 months.
There were no signs of ring-rustiness as he made eight more appearances before heading back to Old Trafford to see out the remainder of his deal.
Amos has played just seven senior games for United in 13 years at the club and speaking to The Bolton News is March, he was keen to find regular football next season.
“I think Bolton is a great club, ex-Premier League, looking forward I’m sure the club has ambition to get back there,” he said.
“I won’t rule anything out, Bolton or otherwise, but I want somewhere I have a realistic chance of playing. There are no guarantees anywhere, I know that, but I need to be playing football.”
Bogdan is away on international duty with Hungary, who face Finland in a European qualifier tomorrow, but will head to Anfield as competition for Simon Mignolet following Brad Jones’s release.
Meanwhile, former Wanderers keeper Andy Lonergan is poised to sign for Championship rivals Fulham.
The 31-year-old was released at the Macron Stadium a fortnight ago after three years at the club.
