City were nobodies not that long ago in terms of the transfer market. At one point they weren't any more powerful than us - Jonathan Macken, Shaun Goater, Antoine Sibierski, Georgios Samaras, numerous players well past their best like Schmeichel, Seamen, Fowler, McManaman - you didn't hear of many very classy players desperate to player for Man City. They were quite pitiful in almost every way, their fans had something new to complain about on GMR every week, a bit like us now really.
As much as I don't like Liverpool, they're a far more attractive club to play for in terms of tradition than City. I know City have got a better chance of winning trophies now but there can't be much novelty to winning the title there compared to if Liverpool or say Arsenal somehow won it.
I personally find it sad that money affects the game as much as it does, but as I doubt anybody on here has ever been offered £100k-£200k a week (except obviously Whittam) and probably never will, who are we to judge.
