Bolton want to re-sign their former midfielder Kevin Nolan.
Veteran West Ham midfielder Nolan, 33, is in the final year of his contract at Upton Park and wants to be playing regularly.
But Nolan's £50,000-a-week wages could be a stumbling block for the Championship Trotters, and West Ham would have to subsidise the contract if he will not take a pay-cut.
Nolan spent 12 years at Bolton, scoring 40 league goals, before making a £4million move to Newcastle in January 2009.
The Lancashire club have recent form when it comes to re-signing their old boys — Eidur Gudjohnsen, who initially played for Bolton in 1998-2000, returned last season at age 36 and scored five goals in 21 league appearances.
