Phil Parkinson says Wanderers won’t be cashing in on rising star Luca Connell.
Brighton are understood to be heading a queue of Premier League clubs eyeing the 17-year-old midfielder, who has burst on to the first team scene in the last week.
Connell has not yet signed professional terms with Bolton and has six months left to run on a second-year scholar’s contract. But with Tottenham, Burnley and Southampton watching with interest it is understood talks are imminent about a new deal.
Wanderers are yet to have their grip on the Republic of Ireland youth international tested, however, and Parkinson expects that to remain the case by tonight’s 11pm deadline.
“He will be here at the end of the week,” assured the Bolton boss. “There will be people watching him, obviously.
“When you are a young player making a debut on Friday, play so well, then back it up with another good performance, of course that will happen.
“He’s a great player and we are looking forward to seeing him here for a long time to come, hopefully.”
Erhun Oztumer is another player in demand, with League One Charlton Athletic and Sunderland interested in taking him on loan for the rest of the season.
Parkinson has stated that the midfielder wants to fight for his place at Bolton – but may be able to use funds generated elsewhere as he looks to bring in at least one new signing today.
“I am trying,” said the manager after Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Reading. “Before kick-off I was taking to the chairman about things we want to do.”
After Jack Hobbs rescued a point against the Royals in injury time, Parkinson reckons his team fully deserved something from the game.
“It would have been a travesty if we had got nothing,” he said.
“I felt we deserved at least a point, if not all three.
“What supporters have got to remember is that the Reading team cost a hell of a lot of money to assemble.
“You got through the wage bill and transfer fees they have paid and we’ve played really well.”
