Have you ever sat with the enemy?

Like most of the 6,000 or so that turned up I only went tonight because I don't have much happening for me on Tuesday nights, or many other nights come to that.

So how does one spice up a frankly shit cup draw like this one? And the answer came to me last night. Sit with the Burton fans. The South Stand is the only part of the stadium I've never set foot in in 15+ years of going so that gave it a bit of novelty value. I also thought it'd be interesting to hear what our fans sound like from an opposing fans point of view. I particularly wanted to know what it sounds like when we score a goal, but obviously that went to cock.

Apart from having to pretend I was euphoric about them winning it in the 87th minute, it was actually really good. I might sit with the away fans again some time.

Have you ever sat with opposing fans, just for the hell of it, or otherwise?

I was at OT in the home end when Ricketts and Nolan secured our win back in the Prem - remember that?

When the first one went in, we both sat on our hands and went: "Oooergh, furgh, bastard! Shit, mumble, grumble......Get fucking in!"

We got some odd looks and we shut up quickly.

One particular Salfordian Gorilla who was about three rows behind us had clicked what was going on, leant forward (over three rows of seats) wrapped his enormous arms around us and said: "Watching you, ladies...!"

When the second one went in I said "Fuck this, I'm not getting beaten to death over a football match!", gave it a big "Get in!" and ran for my life.

We met up in the Doffy (funnily enough) later that night and all swapped war stories because there were about 20 of us who couldn't get tickets in the Bolton end and we'd all had close shaves.

I miss that.

Stood with the away fans at Bradford in about 93. Mcginlay scored right in front of us when the keeper booted the ball at him, left with about 5 minutes left so didn't have to join in the "celebrations" for the last minute winner they scored. Also sat in the Wigan end that season when Tony Kelly turned into Zico, 3 quarters of the groind were Bolton fans anyway so doesn't really count.

i haven't sat in the away end but i remember when we played City a few years ago when we were both in the Championship and the entire row in front of me were City fans. When Kennedy (i think) scored they all jumped up and gave it the big one until a load of bolton fans flew over my head to get at them. They were escorted out sharpish

I sat with the Fulham fans at an away game after one of them gave me a ticket because my mate who had the tickets was delayed. Plenty of banter - they were great. I sat with the Norwich fans last season because my daughter bought the wrong tickets and it was a bit weird but they calmed down when they scored. Two family-orientated clubs and no problems at either - a far cry from the 70s when doing that was unthinkable at almost any away ground.

At Tranmere, supplier had tickets for the exec lounge and seats next to the directors box. We were bobbins so didn't have to worry about getting sussed, probably not many hooligans in there anyway

Mates in the Toon got me a ticket with them. Sat on my hands all afternoon. Dioufy got a double.
The win put us 3rd in the prem. Happy days.

I did at Loftus Road we won 0-1 was fucking hard not celebrating I can tell you that.

3rd FA Cup Match against Newcastle at Leeds (neutral ground) Bolton fans were parking anywhere to get to the match by kick off, we saw a hoard of Black and white scarfs queing to get in so joined them.

Took our place on the Terrace the first chant went up "Howay the lads" I shit myself we lost 2-1 our goal was the least celebrated ever. I took my 14 year old Brother in law and was supposed to look after him lol

Blimey! Your sister married young, mate.

Not really on topic because these three incidents were not actually caused by sitting with the enemy, but that didn't stop us from being set upon:-famously at Atletico Madrid; once attacked while leaving Maine Road; and my wife got hit at Swindon Town, having already suffered hot tea spilt over her head! She lost a bit of interest in football after that! The Swindon public address announcer got the sack after the game for (very successfully) inciting the crowd.
