I reckon it depends on the shape of your head Bread. If you can affix the panama at a rakish/jaunty angle it can look good but firmly establishes you as an older bloke in the eyes of the casual observer. 
If it sits square it can a) make your ears stick out and b) look a bit like Benny Hill playing a cowboy.

I fear that the being viewed "as an older bloke in the eyes of the casual observer" ship sailed long ago, so that's not really a concern.


And I need to establish just exactly what constitutes a rakish angle.
