Darren Pratley believes there are enough goals in the Wanderers team to fire them up the Championship table – even if there are no new loan arrivals up front.
Boss Neil Lennon has been looking to bolster his attacking options since the summer transfer window closed but his forays into the loan market have so far proved fruitless.
The Northern Irishman is still running the rule over free agent Shola Ameobi and another out-of-contract forward, ex-Blackburn and Derby front man Leon Best, has also been linked with a possible move to the Macron Stadium this week.
If those signings do not transpire, Lennon will have to continue to work with what he already has at his disposal in the shape of Gary Madine, Emile Heskey and Stephen Dobbie as central forwards, with Zach Clough currently sidelined with a shoulder injury.
And there are positive signs in that department in recent weeks.
After a sluggish start, the Whites have scored six goals in their last three outings. They have begun to convert the chances that were going begging in the early part of the campaign when their goals return of four from the first eight league games was the worst in the club's history.
Their total of nine in 10 games is still the second lowest in the division with only second-bottom Preston North End netting fewer with seven.
But skipper Pratley, who is only just back after his own injury lay-off kept him out from the first game of the campaign against Derby until last weekend's surprise return to the starting XI at QPR, is confident they can keep adding to the "goals for" column.
And he knows that will see them pull away from the bottom end of the table if they can plug the holes in their back line.
Pratley said: "I have been watching from the sidelines and the boys have been creating chances.
"It's not like they haven't been creating chances, they were just not putting them away.
"Hopefully that will change now going forward."
Pratley was encouraged by the goal threat last weekend in west London despite the eventual outcome – a 4-3 defeat that saw the Whites slip into the bottom three.
They had the perfect start with Gary Madine scoring his second header in as many games and Liam Feeney finding the net for the third time this season.
The club captain is naturally pleased for summer arrival Madine to get off the mark in recent weeks.
But he acknowledges others, like Feeney and Wellington Silva – who netted his first goal in English football at Loftus Road – also have to contribute in what is a team effort going forward.
Pratley includes himself in that group after his fruitful spell last winter when he scored four goals in six games over the festive programme taking his tally to five for the 2014-15 campaign before injury ended the season prematurely at the end of January.
And as the team begins to prepare for another away day at Burnley – a place where Pratley scored on the opening day in 2013 – he hopes the goals will start flowing again.
The 30-year-old midfielder added: "Gary scored against Brighton and that lifted him.
"You could tell that by the way he played at QPR, where I thought he played well.
"He got another goal and Feens did as well so there are goals in the team.
"The problem at the minute is at the other end where we score three away from home and lose.
"But we are a team and we all lose together just like we all win together."
