He will keep them up. Whether he can do much more than that is debatable. Very good appointment by Sunderland I reckon. They've been disorganised for a while now. He will sort them out.

Their last three appointments have followed the same pattern. Honeymoon period keeps them up, and the guy gets sacked the season after when they're on like 3 points from 8-10 games.
It's hard to imagine Allardyce not steadying the ship for a few years but at the same time they'll probably be fed up of him in less than 12 months, as was the case at his last three clubs.
