Allardyce to be Everton boss

Sam Allardyce will finalise a deal to become Everton manager on Wednesday.
The 63-year-old ex-England boss will become the permanent successor to Ronald Koeman, who was sacked in October with the club 18th in the Premier League.
David Unsworth remains in caretaker charge as the Toffees face West Ham at Goodison Park at 20:00 GMT.
Allardyce has been out of work since resigning from Crystal Palace in May.
He stepped down after just five months in the job - his first since an ill-fated one-game spell as England manager - having led the club to eight wins in 21 games to secure a 14th-place finish in the league.
Everton are now 17th in the table and have won just one of seven games in all competitions under Unsworth, who is the club's under-23s manager.
Dutchman Koeman guided Everton to seventh place in his first season in charge last term, but was sacked the day after a 5-2 home defeat by Arsenal on 22 October.
The Toffees spent more than £130m on new players in the summer but have struggled without last season's top scorer Romelu Lukaku, who was sold to Manchester United for £75m in July.

Good appointment at this time.

Allardyce is a good appointment for any team, especially the strugglers. He'll keep them up no danger.

I am surprised by the negativity from the Everton supporters. On their biggest fans forum out of 70 votes, 50 are against the appointment.

Here's a couple of views

"Six weeks and we end up with the Mutant Squad. Unbelievable. I don't recognise this club any more. Allardyce, Lee, Shakespeare and Walsh. We clearly decided that because we're playing like we did in the 90's we needed a management crew from that era. Let's sign Carlton Palmer and Dion Dublin while we're at it."

They need to get a grip on reality which is staying up and he is the man no question about it.

They think they are a big club but sadly those days are long gone. I've always thought their fans were thugs as i've been on a few trains after matches with them and are always aggressive and kicking off.

Allardyce has been nothing more than a survival specialist in recent years and Everton fans aren't ready to accept that that's what they need. Considering how much they've spent on players though that's understandable.

To be fair, since Bolton he hasn't stayed at one club for over 12 months and been well liked by the time he's left.

I don't like Everton much but I quite hope he stays there for a good few years and gets them up in the top 6 at least.

Spend £150 million or whatever they did in the summer and you expect a strong level of return. Fact of the matter is Allardyce is regarded as a short term solution to a relegation fight.

With that in mind you can understand their frustrations, no evidence of a long term plan which for a club their size is worrying.

It all goes back to the unfair media criticism we received for being a long ball team under Allardyce and he's been tied to that tag ever since. Every club he's been at since has dragged out the same reaction from the fans, regardless of what he's actually done and it's because the likes of West Ham and Everton expect their club to play attractive flowing football and assume Allardyce can't deliver it.

Everton's problem is that they way overspent on mediocre players. Didn't they drop 30 million or some ridiculous number for the goalkeeper? not to mention bring in Rooney who is well past his sell by date. Wonder how much he makes a week now.
So the failure is that the manager did not identify value for money players and therefore they can't perform any better than the ones they let go.
It's like buying Pratley for 25 million and shouting at him to execute 10 yard passes accurately....not gonna happen.
Sam might get more effort out of them. I don't think there's a chance of them being relegated though.

They are a very decent team on paper with just the one major failing of not having replaced Lukaku and his goals.

I would think Allardyce must have got the promise to have the money to sort this out in January so I can't see him failing to keep them up - and finish much higher up the league than they are now.

It would surprise me if he uses Rooney a great deal more either.

In his only England game as manager he allowed Wayne a free role - much to the media's disbelief - and he is known for squeezing the most out of over the hill quality players as we know - so I'm sure Rooney will be getting more game time soon.

In some ways I hope he doesn't stop Everton from being relegated but on previous form he probably will save them and just like at West Ham he still won't be appreciated.

Exactly right. I've just seen some empty headed Everton fan banging on about how Sam is a survival specialist but that's not where they want to be, they want to be fighting it out with the big boys. Clueless on every level.

I hope they go down with West Ham and Stoke. But I think BSA is a Bolton legend. He had us at the last leg of Everest and Gartside pulled us back down the mountain.

Watching Allardyce's face when Everton pulled a cracking performance out of the bag to demolish West Ham on Wednesday he looked like he couldn't believe his luck. Yet again he's inherited a great squad that has been underperforming and if anything he was probably a bit gutted that they showed what they could do in Unsworth's last game otherwise he could claim all the credit for their improvement.
It had to happen sooner or later with the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson having been a shadow of their former selves until now and unless Allardyce completely cocks it up, there is no way Everton will get relegated. They have too many good players and a superb youth development system. Mid table this year.

Sam's apparantly due a huge bonus just for keeping Everton up this season, nice work if you can get it.I think the result the other night was more about West Ham than Everton, they are in an awful state and many of their fans are more sick about leaving Upton Park for a soulless bowl than the state of their team and manager.

Well Sam got one over Liverpool again, their fans were mocking Everton shouting hoof when they played long balls...until they equalised. Ha ha

Papers are saying that Allardyce is planning a clear out in January so I was wondering if he'd be interested in doing us a favour? Letting us keep Robinson would be a good start, and if Ross Barkley and Yannick Bolassie are looking to ease themselves into competitive football after longish injury lay-offs I'm sure we could accommodate them.

Sam won't do Bolton any favours while Eddie Davies is still sniffing round for money.If we get Everton players it will have to be at the going rate
