It has been a memorable few weeks for Bolton Wanderers Under-21s striker Kaiyne Woolery.
The young forward netted a hat-trick in the young Whites’ recent draw with Leeds United, coming just days after making his first senior appearance of the season for Neil Lennon’s side against Birmingham City.
Woolery’s introduction at Macron Stadium marked his Bolton home debut, having been handed his maiden Trotters appearance against Championship winners AFC Bournemouth last season following match-winning performances for the Under-21s against Arsenal and Manchester United.
Again emerging as one of Wanderers’ standout performance at Leeds’ Thorp Arch training ground, the 20-year-old’s hat-trick helped the Whites recover from a slow start to earn a share of the spoils, having seen kick off delayed after their team coach got stuck in traffic on the motorway.
Reflecting on his campaign so far in an exclusive chat with bwfc.co.uk, Woolery praised his team-mates for how they responded to less than ideal pre-match preparations against the Yorkshiremen before sharing his desire to build on what has already been an impressive start to the season.
“I’m buzzing to have got a hat-trick,” the forward beamed. “It was hard for us to get into the game early on as we only had a fifteen minute warm-up and were then straight into it.
“We went 2-0 down but everyone showed great character for us to get back into the game.
“Jon [Ceberio] had a great game and was unlucky not to score. Jamie [Thomas] was unlucky too. The three of us have a good understanding of where each other will be and thankfully that’s helped me get the three goals.
“Jon played me in with a great pass for my first goal. It was a lovely through-ball in from the halfway line. That’s all you want, it makes my job as a striker easier!
“It was then a great flick-on by Jamie for the second and I just gambled. I got there in front of the defender and I’m glad to have been in the right place at the right time to take advantage and score an easy goal.
“As for the third, I was really determined to get into the box and once I got past their challenges, there was only one thing on my mind.”
Woolery continued: “It was great to make my home debut for the first team. Hopefully I can build on that and get more chances. I just need to keep on performing like I did today.
“If I keep scoring goals then I think the chances will follow, so that’s what I’ve got to keep on doing.
“It would be great to push on and get a chance in the first team now. That’s what I’m here for and I’d love to get a chance to show everyone what I can do.”
