Having made his first start for the club in midweek and notched his inaugural strike in Bolton colours in Saturday’s victory over Rotherham United, Kaiyne Woolery could not hide his delight following the final whistle against the Millers.

With the game finely poised at 1-1 after Chris Burke had cancelled out Jay Spearing’s early opener, the decisive effort fell to the 21-year-old deep into stoppage time with the former Tamworth man making no mistake after Lee Camp had spilled Mark Davies’ initial shot.

And speaking to bwfc.co.uk in the wake of his first goal for the club, Woolery admitted that it has been something of a whirlwind week for himself.

“This week has moved so fast for me, but I’m delighted to have paid the gaffer and the team back in some way by scoring the winner today,” he said.

“At the end of the day though, I’m just so happy that we won and we’re off the bottom of the table now and we’re moving closer to safety.

“With the goal, I just saw Sparky go through one on one and the keeper come out – I thought he was going to save it, so I just went to follow it up just in case and luckily it dropped to me for an open net.

“I can’t describe the feeling – especially with it being my first goal, I’m just over the moon. With them being relegation rivals too, it makes it all the more special.”

He continued: “They’re in the same position as us so it was always going to be a tough game and a battle, so I’m just thrilled that we won and it’s a step in a positive direction."

Woolery also paid tribute to Wanderers’ resilience in difficult conditions, with the youngster believing that the mettle shown by the team in recent weeks will be crucial throughout the remainder of the campaign.

“Our last couple of league results have been very good and we’ve got points off all of them – MK Dons, Wolves and today – so there’s a good belief in the team at the moment. We know we can get out of this.

“On Tuesday, we went two nil down and came back which shows just how much fight is in the team and we showed that again today,” he explained.

“No points are going to be given to us in this league – we just have to work as hard as we can because we want to get out of this situation so much.

“We believe that we can get a positive result out of every game and we’ll take every match as it comes as we look to get out of this position.”
