The Writers Guild of America has just voted Annie Hall funniest screenplay of all time: https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=9&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CD4QqQIwCGoVChMI7ajAp6WNyQIVxc0UCh3h5QXY&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.theguardian.com%2Ffilm%2F2015%2Fnov%2F12%2Fannie-hall-woody-allen-funniest-screenplay-all-time-writers-guild-of-america&usg=AFQjCNFUsIYH6sr42lufKJtf1pJjfI0jRQ&sig2=-i3cqAbqzIy9WDD3RpMoeQ

A great film but not my choice. The rest of the list has some good contenders, especially Some Like It Hot, but not my personal favourite Monty Python's Life of Brian.

What would you pick?

There are some clever comedy films out there, but if I'm judging a film on how many times it makes me laugh out loud I'd have to go with Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.

The first 30 minutes is almost perfection.

Yes and Borat is not even in their top 20 unlike Bridesmaids which at best is only funny intermittently.

Correct about Bridesmaids, ok film but nothing spectacular.

To be honest only Groundhog Day, Airplane and The Big Lebowski would make my top 20 from that list.

another one i thought of is the original version of the Producers, fantastic film, never seen the remake and don't want to either.

That was a laugh out loud film with a huge cringe-factor.
There are lots of keck-wetting film moments in other films - the Orgasmatron scene in Sleeper, the blind man scene in Young Frankenstein, the police cannibalism scene in Themroc - too many to list - but the Producers was old school feel good throughout. Must track that down and watch it again.

The Pink Panther series were very funny. Peter Sellers was brilliant. National Lampoon was another hilarious series of films. I thought Chevy Chase was a good comedy actor.

The first half of Superbad is super funny but the second half wasn't quite as funny.
