Wanderers manager Neil Lennon accepts only positive results on the field will impress any new owners at the Macron Stadium.
The pressure on the Northern Irishman ramped up again after defeat at Reading saw the Whites sink to bottom spot in the Championship.
Without a win in 11 matches and a return of just five points from the last 33 available, Lennon is enduring a tough time at present.
And with funds frozen, the situation is just as bad off the field as new appointment Trevor Birch looks to broker a sale of the club.
The Whites boss hopes that is resolved quickly but knows his future could hinge on whether results pick up – whoever is at the helm.
Lennon said: "What might happen is that investors might want to make a change – I have to be realistic about that.
"Results haven’t been good and the buck stops with the manager.
“But it needs investment or the club will run out of money, possibly, and you don’t want a situation like that.
"Trevor is in to get investment as quickly as possible.
“I’m not sure it’s going to happen as quickly as that [before the Brentford game].
“If you’ve got an Abramovich it might last 15 minutes but it could take a matter of weeks.
"I don’t know how long it will take is the absolute truth."
All Lennon can do is focus on playing matters and try to instil confidence in his team before Monday's home clash with Brentford.
He had hoped to inject freshness into his side last week before being told loan deals were on hold.
There are youngsters in the squad who could add that different dimension but the boss does not feel it is the right time to blood them while his side is in a scrap for survival at the bottom.
He wants the senior players to lead by example.
Lennon said: "“I don’t think this is the time to bring young players in, when we’re in a relegation fight. I don’t think that would be fair.
“Listen, we blooded young players – we got Josh Vela in, we’ve got Tom Walker around, we’ll have Zach Clough, Prince is only 21, Max Clayton is only 21.
“We’ve got plenty of younger players in the squad, it’s the senior players who I’m looking to work with and get more from to manage us through this period.
"It has been a trying time.
“We kept the team up last year and we’re hoping we can do it again.
"But I need players to take their chances and not make silly mistakes at the back.
“We will work with the players this week and hopefully turn things around."
