I do indeed but the less said about that one the better, not least because he was a big City fan.

Sixth form at Thornleigh was the best -  decent teachers (like Harry Yates and Joe Malloy)

Lancashire County Council kindly gave me a scholarship at the age of 7 to go to Park Rd and on from there into that Victorian Institution up Chorley New Rd, also graced by Manda, Okocha and few others on here. It was an emotional rollercoaster as I was always in a lot of trouble, which meant a lot of beatings (I believe I still hold the record of 32 "strokes" in one week) and detentions but also encouraged my sporting ambitions and gave me a sound all round education and opportunities to travel.
For me, University and the years that immediately followed it were the best years, but whilst school wasn't always plain sailing, I'll always be grateful for the education and opportunities it gave me. Now they just ask me for money on a regular basis.

Mrs West used to teach swimming at Whitecroft and every Thursday morning in my last year at Oxford Grove all the lads had to traipse up to there for lessons. She was a right tyrant, she st tasks and if you couldn't do them you got bollocked and sent out.
Every lad copped for it that year off her, it was even rumoured she couldnt swim herself!

I knew quite a lot of lads and girls from there. All the 11 plus rejects from Oxford Grove went there or Brownlow Fold.
Happy Days.

Finlay, I was thinking about Twigg today for some reason and "EBTOG" (Engage brain then operate gob) jumped in my mind.

He used to say this quite often in the class and was one of his usual sayings.

Not sure if you remember it? Smile

Was he actually convicted, do you know?

I remember it being plastered in the BN on numerous occasions but can't remember the outcome.

Mr. Bottomley (Music) had an issue similar to this ages ago as well.

My old teacher,Mr Edge, used to make us play football in wellington boots. He insisted it would improve our ball skills when we played in normal footwear.
He was also quite bonkers, and not in a funny way. He had a few habits that I can't really mention on here.

That's him. Not seen him since I left Ryders thirty odd years ago. He used to go to the odd gig or two with us.
The last one I remember him going was Tubes about 78 at FTH. Not long after that they stopped them there cos of the punksters.

I have to agree, the teaching when I was there was bloody pathetic, kids ruling the roost.

A lot of the teachers and staff should have been struck off.

It seems to have cleaned up it's act so to speak and is now a Science specialist college as well now or something and the kids are getting better results now.

Not sure how old you are Karly, and I'm sure I'm old enough to be your Dad, but was that wanker Mr. Twigg (Maths) still there when you went?
Yes he was. Very Happy

I am 31 BTW.

He tortured me. I was shit at maths so my Mum and Dad made me go to private maths lessons to make sure I passed my O-Level. That cocksucker announced it to the entire class every single time I walked into one of his lessons. You can probably image shit I took.

Swore blind he was having an affair with Gail Tilsley(?) from Coronation Street too. Used to tell us that he had a flat in Manchester where he met her once a week.

What a COCK!

If you're 31 Karly you'll probably remember Mr Altdorf, AKA the scouse umpa lumpa.

A few more names the Sharples lads might remember:

Mr Mitton - geography teacher, nice guy, but everyone was shit scared of him because you never knew when he'd have a nervous breakdown and shout and throw stuff like a maniac. I think he was a big Bolton fan so he might well be reading.

Mr Gething - I think he'd been there longer than the school so you should know him.

Mr Robinson - English teacher. Retired now and seems to spend his life in Hope and Anchor on Chorley Old Road.

Mr Leggett - good bloke.

Mr Singadia - mad science teacher.

Is Altdorf still there? His partner was Mrs Turner you know.

Couldn't fault the sports teachers there, they we're fantastic including Mr. Turner.

Singhadia is a very good Science teacher. I remember when his kid started school, the kid couldn't keep away from his dad at break times, apparently it used to drive him bonkers.

I remember Leggett and robinson but didn't really have them as teachers.

I don't know a Mr. Gething and Mitton rings a bell although I had a Mrs Ruscoe for that.

Do you remember Mr. Savage?

We used to have a couple of fit Science teachers as well but my memory isn't as good as it used to be. Very Happy
Oh yeah I remember all these. Mr Mittons son Ross was In my geography class that he used to teach, and I was also in same year as Singhadias kid Vinesh. I remember one day after school playing footy, he was in net and getting pissed off at us booting balls at him and shouted FUCK OFF just as his dad came round the corner!

My secondary school gym teacher was a brute his nickname was Bluto from the old popeye toons he liked to slap naked boys bums in the showers. He hated fat boys so much that he used to bend them over and kick medicine balls at them. No Nat i was not fat but i still took a shit on the seat of his open top MG in the teachers car park.
