Despite defeat at Hull, Neil Lennon believe his Bolton Wanderers side have it in them to step up and string together a run of results.

Bolton were edged out by a solitary goal on a wet and windy afternoon at the KC Stadium.

Neil Danns hit a post early in the second half, but in the end the search for an equalising goal following Chuba Akpom’s opener for the home side proved fruitless.

“There wasn’t much in it really,” Lennon said in his post-match press conference. “We know we lack quality in certain areas and we didn’t play well in the first half, particularly in midfield.

“We came out in the second half showed more positivity in the opening 60 seconds than we had in the entire first half. Dannzy hits the post and if that goes in we’re looking at a completely different game.

“Again, we didn’t look like a team at the bottom of the league. Whilst there were times when we could have kept the ball better and passed it with a bit more purpose, the effort and endeavour was there.

“I’m looking for more from our senior players right now. At the other end of the spectrum Rob Holding came in and was superb. His performance was a huge positive for us today. We may start having to look at a few younger players to bolster the squad.

“We’re in a difficult position and we need the senior lads to really step up and be counted. We’re bottom of the league, but we still very much believe we will get out of it. We have to galvanise ourselves and come out stronger on the other side.

“We have a six-pointer coming up on Tuesday at Charlton. If we can win that game we can then look start stringing together a series of results and look to move up the table.

“What’s going on off the field shouldn’t affect us when we cross that white line. We’re in constant contact with Trevor Birch and we have to trust the process that he is managing at this moment.”

"We know we lack quality in certain areas."
