PLAYERS at Wanderers will get to spend Christmas Day with their families tomorrow ahead of the trip to Rotherham United on Saturday.

Assistant boss Steve Walford confirmed the squad were being granted time off after a final training session today before travelling to South Yorkshire on Boxing Day morning for the crunch Championship encounter at the New York Stadium.

While some clubs will have players in to train at some point tomorrow, Walford says the decision has been taken to let the Whites players rest up – something he says is not that unusual.

The Londoner told The Bolton News: "We train on Christmas Eve then we are going to give the players Christmas Day off which a lot of clubs do.

"I have done it before myself.

"They can have a nice day with their families then shut that off, come to work and go and win a game of football and that’s what we intend to do."

With the financial situation remaining perilous at the Macron Stadium and no takeover imminent, Wanderers will not be spending tomorrow night in a hotel and will instead make the short journey across the Pennines on the morning of the game.

But Walford hopes that will not have any detrimental effect on their preparations.

He said: "Things have changed a little bit with regards the financial situation.

"We will travel over to Rotherham on Saturday morning for a pre-match meal and then the game."
