In what film did he play a character called Lars? I've been wracking my brain since yesterday but can't think of any. I would cheat and use Google but  I'll leave that to Bouncey.

He had that sleazy bordering on creepy arrogant air about him that made him perfect for the Hollywood villain. English actors have always been cast as villains in America (when we weren't being cast as posh snobs) but Rickman epitomised the English villain stereotype and paved the way for even more Brits to be the baddie. Another one to die from cancer worryingly young this week. RIP.

A report came out last year which (I think) basically said that one in two of us in the developed world will be struck down with a cancer of some sort in our lifetime.

I'm not sure if we're just better at diagnosing it nowadays or whether something's happening to increase cancer rates at an alarming rate.

My Mum went a couple of years ago at 67 and my Dad has been left unable to eat solid food after major surgery at the same age.

This despite them both leading fairly healthy, active lives.

Is it time to go and live on an island and just eat fruit?

No it's time to sell the house and superfluous possessions and spend everything on a debauched orgy of self-indulgence riding the train of hedonism for as long as possible so we can die knowing we did it our way. F*** the kids.

At least that's my plan.
