Wanderers must push the button on administration by Friday IF they fail to strike a deal on new ownership.

Though hopes remain high an agreement can be reached with one of the parties currently in talks with Eddie Davies, preparations are also being made for the worst-case scenario.

If new owners have not been found by the end of the week, the sale of Wanderers’ Euxton training base to local rivals Wigan Athletic will be activated, raising funds to trade in administration.

It is understood the sale is worth £2.2million and that there is no agreement in place to buy back the land in the future.

News of the impending training base sale has prompted a furious reaction from supporters concerned the club is being stripped of a valuable asset, which could make it less attractive to those looking to buy.

Modernised from portable cabins in the Sam Allardyce era, Euxton has been transformed into one of the most high-tech and modern training bases in the country over the last decade.

Wanderers have discussed amalgamating their academy and first-team bases for several years if it became financially viable to do so. But though Lostock has ample space, it is believed players and coaching staff would have to base themselves at the stadium for facilities such as catering and physiotherapy and travel the short distance to train.

The club described ongoing talks as “fluid” last night, with at least three bidders still in play.

The plan is still to inform the successful party by Friday, if not before, and depending on their position, allow them to start or complete due diligence on the club’s accounts.

In the meantime, Neil Lennon must prepare his side for action against QPR this weekend with question marks still hanging over the fitness of top scorer Gary Madine.

The former Sheffield Wednesday front man pulled out of the squad at Wolves a few weeks ago, citing a back injury, and has not been fit enough to feature since.

Wanderers also hope full-back Dean Moxey will be fit again after a dead leg but David Wheater and Liam Trotter (both hamstring) will not be in the squad.

Jay Spearing has also been nursing a groin problem, which forced him off the pitch in the 3-2 defeat at Brighton at the weekend.
