Darren Pratley is praying a new player can come to Wanderers and make themselves a hero.
The club captain believes a successful loan signing or two could galvanise the team and spark a fight for survival.
Just like the Bolton fans, the club captain is willing an end to the financial crisis that has cast a dark shadow on three quarters of the season.
The Whites have been in the bottom three since October and in a complete transfer embargo since the turn of the year when they failed to submit accounts to Financial Fair Play regulators.
That could soon come to end if Sports Shield get the go-ahead from the Football League this week, leaving the consortium clear to hand in the relevant paperwork and enable the club to make loan signings before the close of the window at the end of the month.
Dean Holdsworth’s group gave their final business plan to the league on Monday and hope to have the takeover ratified by tomorrow, after which the process of lifting the embargo is relatively straightforward and swift.
The league wanted clarification on how the consortium plans to fund next season – with particular concern on what would happen if the club is relegated to League One.
Pratley’s concerns are geared towards avoiding that scenario and with Neil Lennon’s squad worryingly thin in some areas, the midfielder believes extra competition could help to inspire a late dash for safety.
“Some freshness around the place sometimes helps,” the midfielder said. “It can put a bit of pressure on the lads to improve performances and if you get some good ones on loan who have something to prove, or some time to put themselves in the shop window, it can be good.
“Someone coming in on loan at Bolton right now could be a hero if they helped keep this club up. The fans are going to love them.
“We need help. We’ve had basically the same squad since the start of the season.”
Wanderers have taken nine points from the last available 30 and are nursing a number of minor injuries along with longer-term problems for the likes of Liam Trotter, David Wheater, Ben Amos and Dorian Dervite.
“I don’t think anyone in that team isn’t carrying a knock. We’re all in the treatment room midweek,” Pratley added.
“But we’re trying to stick it out.”
Wanderers could have Liam Trotter back in the squad for this weekend’s trip to Leeds United but will still be without injured trio Dorian Dervite, Ben Amos and David Wheater at Elland Road.
