Lets's be honest....

...it's shit.

I know a few of us on here have played the game a bit (back when we could still run about unaided) and I reckon that even in our dilapidated state, we'd still give the England Women's Team a decent game.

I've just watched them struggle to beat their Indian counterparts after finally stumbling their way to victory by chasing down 90 runs in 19 overs.

And they almost blew it with some truly awful batting.

This, despite the fact that the Indians persisted in serving up a succession of juicy long-hops about a foot outside off stump which all screamed "Smash me through the covers for four!"

Mind you, the English bowling was of a similar standard, so it proves how poor the Indians were too.

And this wasn't a one off - I've seen a few games and they've all been shite.

Poor batting, weak bowling and the standard of fielding you'd expect from Heaton Under 9's.

And who's doing the washing and ironing while they're all faffing about playing terrible cricket.....?

I think she'll agree with me because as a Lib Dem, she's sworn to only ever tell the truth.

It's in their rule book I think.

It's actually worse.

(Yeah, I know....hard to believe but it is.)

I honestly think that if you gave an assortment of random chimps from Chester Zoo a load of cricketing gear and put them in first, they'd be about 50-2 after about 8 overs against the women.

And they'd only be two down because they'd managed to run themselves out chasing seagulls....

I'm all for equality and diversity in the work place and have championed both causes extensively in the past.

However, this does not alter the fact that women are biz at cricket.

And driving....

It's unfair to tar them all with the same brush - there was one a few years back called Vivienne Richards who weren't all that bad.

You're liable to be hauled in shackles through the Long Room and made to stand trial on heresy charges in front of a disciplinary panel made up of MCC members simply for joking about that.

Careful now.....

Hasn't Sarah Taylor played with considerable success for Sussex 2nd X1 as a wicketkeeper/batter and for an Australian men's team too?

Can't wait until June? Looking forward to the ODI and test series against Pakistan? I certainly am.

I never thought I'd say it,but I've rather fallen out of love with cricket.

There's simply too much of it,and most of it meaningless, other than to line the pockets of players and administrators.

England beat SA last week, chasing down 229,in the biggest run chase in T20 history, but do I care?

Not really. Did I forget about it a day later? Yes.

Never mind, bring on the next slogfest.

I know exactly where you're coming from, Mand.

I fought the urge to have a rant for ages.

But eventually, the appalling standard of cricket on display forced me into starting this thread.

Gad you're on board.

Yes there's something utterly satisfying and heartwarming sat in an empty prayer tent surrounded by cushions whilst drinking Gin and Tonic.

Two and half days it lasted, worth every minute............

Currently 57-6 batting against some poppy farmers from Afghanistan.

I can hear the guffawing and chortling in Bath from here......

As well as Viv there used to be another top-class performer called Rachael "Hey Ho" Flint. She was captain of the women's team for about 67 years, won the World Cup on at least 32 occasions and even found time to play in goal for Wolves for a few seasons.

Rachael taught Sir Ian Botham everything he knew and Beefy plainly had no problems with the women's game.
